Guest guest
Dear Sukhmani, > In teaching the first chakra, I used the "Meditation into Being" with the mantra "I am, I am"--a merger of the finite self with the infinite. Sound more like the 7th chakra to me. "I am" is realization after you have experienced the presence of the infinite inside yourself. Do you have my book "Your Life is in Your Chakras"? This explains how to activate the power of each of the chakras. THe first chakra is nonverbal, therefore my personal opinion is that any mantra, expecially one that the mind relates to, like "I am" could be distracting. Use the root lock and experience the connection with the earth and the body. The first chakra is feeling awareness. Guest guest
thank you for your response, Gururattan. "Your Life Is in Your Chakras" was one of my primary resource books. I also got meditations and sets from some of your manuals (my favorite being "Transitions to a Heart-Centered World.") I understand what you are saying about the "I Am" meditation. I usually try to end each class with an 11-minute meditation. Is this, perhaps, inappropriate for a first chakra class? Would a shorter, breath meditation be more appropriate than a verbal one? sukhmani - Gururattan K.Khalsa Kundaliniyoga Tuesday, June 26, 2001 2:11 PM Re: First chakra Dear Sukhmani, > In teaching the first chakra, I used the "Meditation into Being" with the mantra "I am, I am"--a merger of the finite self with the infinite. If you are looking for a meditation to close the class, maybe this would be good: this is an eigth-part meditation with the "Sat Nam, Sat Nam, Wahe Guru, Wahe Guru" mantra. It works like this: 1. Sat - contract the rectum area 2. Nam - contact the sex organ 3. Sat - contract the navel 4. Nam - contract the diafragm 5. Wahe - relax the diafragm 6. Guru - relax the navel 7. Wahe - relax the sex organ 8. Guru - relax the rectum This works on all three lower chakras and facilitates the flow of energy. You can have the mantra play on tape or somebody could also chant the mantra aloud. Hope this helps. Many blessings, Satsang Kaur

Guest guest
Sat Nam, I usually try to end each class with an 11-minute meditation. Is this, perhaps, inappropriate for a first chakra class? No. It is always good to end with a meditation. Would a shorter, breath meditation be more appropriate than a verbal one? Possibly. Although mantras that are not in English can be felt in the body and there is less chance of becoming mental. Just end with a silent meditation on one's presence.
