Guest guest
Dr.Dharma Khalsa in his excellent Meditation as Medicine outlines a "special meditation for the fifth chakra." He indicates that the mantra "Hummee Hum, Brahm Hum" is chanted w/ the root of the tongue. Two questions: (1) What does he mean by chanting w/ the "root of the tongue?" and (2) What is the correct pronounciation for the mantra? As always, I appreciate the responses I receive to my questions. Joe
Guest guest
The pronounciation is: humee hum (short 'u' as in the English word 'hum' in both cases, 'ee' as in 'eel') brahm (as in the composer's name Brahms, or 'a' as in 'father', 'r' slightly rolled). Hope that helps. Someone else will have to comment on the root of the tongue. I suspect it means to feel the vibration of the syllables at the back of the tongue. I suspect it means to feel the vibration of the syllables at the > back of the tongue. I too feel this is correct. Chanted meditations for the 5th (throat) chakra are mostly meant to be felt in the throat, not superficially chanted with the tip of the tongue. Om and Ong are also meant to be chanted from the throat and nasal region, not "sung" with the tongue. So is Tibetan chanting. I believe in this meditation as well we are supposed to feel the chant in the throat. As far as I can tell : )! Many blessings, Satsang Kaur
Guest guest
Hi, just wanted to ask if the vibrations of ong, om, or humm are supposed to be felt in the throat, the nose, and the head. and this is supposed to tune in to other dimensional frequencies/channels? I've done the Ong Namu Guru Dev Namu mantra and now there is this humming in my ears. Guest guest
Dear Maria, is supposed to tune in to other dimensional frequencies/channels? Yes. There is another channel that has no static. I've done the Ong Namu > Guru Dev Namu mantra and now there is this humming in my ears. Listen to it. It is the cosmic sound of silence. This is great. Guest guest
How long did you practice the Adi Mantra (Ong Namo, Guru Dev Namo)? How long did the humming last? I am very curious! Ong resonates in the sinus, frontal lobes. Om vibrates the lips. Guest guest
Hi Dharan!, well I chant Ong Namu, Guru Dev Namo everytime I tune in to meditate. I chant it at least 10 times until I can direct my attention to this frequency in my ears (that is my technique to suspend my thoughts), it sounds like a whispering eeeeee. I hear it ALL the time, ever since I started chanting this mantra. Now it's getting a little louder even. I dont know how I did it! I just know when I practice I'm in sole devotion to the Self. After about 3 days or so of chanting this mantra I've tuned in to this new cosmic channel. Of course I'm trying mainly to nurture my chakras well, dont wanna go too far too fast. LOVE, maria --- Dharam Singh <dharam wrote: > How long did you practice the Adi Mantra (Ong Namo, Guru > Dev Namo)? How long did the humming last? Guest guest
Wow! Sat Nam Maria, Thanks for the details. I must say I have experienced something like what you are describing only once. I was at the Golden Temple where Kirtan has been played from 3am to 10 pm everyday for centuries or at least in recent times. It's how things are done. That constant recitation of these Holy "songs "has totally imbibed the very molecular structure of the place in such a way that by simply being there one can be transformed, healed or simply blown away. Well, I did 108 dips in the Harimandir Sahib (Holy Water surrounding the temple) and I was sitting on the marble having just recited Jap Sahib (20 minutes) and it was as though I were in a bell or more accurately, I was a bell.. My most inaudible utterances were so incredibly resonant and it was as though all that was in the universe was part of that "inner" sound. It lasted for about 10 minutes and I don't know much more to say about it. It's not like you can just walk up to people say "hey, guess what happened this morning" By repeating mantra (Jappa) and stimulating the 84 reflex points in the mouth over and over, one may be “overtaken” by the state of Ajappa Jap – of repeating without repeating. Thanks for sharing and congratulations, Be in that Channel, Dharam P.S. Keep breathing deeply. mgb wrote: > Hi Dharan!, well I chant Ong Namu, Guru Dev Namo everytime > I tune in to meditate.
