Guest guest
So many questions, so little time. I'm doing a meditation that requires one to keep their eyes 9/10 closed and focused on the tip of the nose. I find this very distracting and find it very hard to remain focused on my mantra. I find myself closing my eyes and focusing on the tip of the nose. Is this acceptable? Someone mentioned "looking through the chin," is this an acceptable option? Thanks for the input! Guest guest
Hey Joe, I focus on the tip of my nose or through it or beyond it, sometimes, and into the heart space. At any rate I acknowledge the difficulty to myself and smile. Smiling makes it less of a mental exercise and opens myself on a heart level to the whole process. Being totally present is a challenge indeed. Keep up and laugh. I tell my students and myself that the moment I lose my focus and my eyes start to wander, so does my mind, and if my mind is wandering then I am no longer in the posture. If the emotions are strong and distracting then one can focus through the chin. If you do "looking throught the chin," it may alter the focus of the meditation. samantha > Thanks for the input! > > Joe > > > > > > > "OUR DESTINY IS TO BE HAPPY" > - Yogi Bhajan > > You can UNSUBSCRIBE from this list at the Groups Member Center (My Groups), or send mail to > Kundaliniyoga > NO UNSUBSCRIBE REQUESTS TO THE LIST PLEASE! > WEB SITE: kundalini yoga > > KUNDALINI YOGA ON-LINE TRAINING. Guest guest
Sat Nam! I tell my students and myself that > the moment I lose my focus and my eyes start to wander, so does > my mind, and if my mind is wandering then I am no longer in the posture. > I have found the same to be true. I was told that focusing on the tip of the nose, "captures the mind", and I have found it to be true in my own practice. I feel it as different than focusing at the third eye. The chin thing sounds interesting. Do you mean to gaze through your chin at your nose or out your eyes at your chin? Guest guest
Dear All, I find myself closing my eyes and focusing on the tip of the nose. Is this acceptable? Yes. I do this too. Once I have found the third eye by focusing at the tip of my nose then I keep part of my attention at the third eye. The eyes focused toward the tip of the nose actually locks in the third eye point and makes it vibrate. The idea of the eyes slightlly open is that it helps focus the eyes and the mind. If this is not needed then it isn't that important. When I focus on the chin (right under the jaw bone) I look toward the heart and keep my concentration on both at the same time. It feels stablizing. Every other option as been discussed I think. :+) Sat Nam, Gururattan Kaur
Guest guest
SAt Nam, Do you mean to gaze through your chin at > your nose or out your eyes at your chin? You bring your eye attention down to underneath your jaw. I experience the place as the soft space just behind the bone of the jaw. Guest guest
Dear Thomas, I have found that first practicing looking between the eyebrows, and stretching the eyes to look further up through the top of the skull helps me to keep the eyes at the tip of the nose. In other words, I think that stretching one way helps stretch the other way. Good point. One of the reasons the eyeys can't focus at the tip of the nose is that the eye muscles are weak. If you exercise your eye muscles it helps strengthen them. Arms to the sides, parallel to the ground, palms up, with breath of fire balances the brain and makes focusing meditations easier. Guest guest
I have just one more thing to add. I have found difficulty focusing at the tip of the nose because of a broken nose early in life that presents my eyes with an image that pulls attention to the left. I have found that first practicing looking between the eyebrows, and stretching the eyes to look further up through the top of the skull helps me to keep the eyes at the tip of the nose. In other words, I think that stretching one way helps stretch the other way. -thomas - "Gururattan K.Khalsa" <rattanak <Kundaliniyoga> Thursday, August 02, 2001 10:01 AM Re: Focusing on tip of nose. > Dear All, > > I find myself closing my eyes and focusing on the tip of the nose. Guest guest
Sat Nam littlebird109 I like the way you phase the focus of the nose. I concur, it is and feels different from focusing at the third eye. The chin, I don't know much about, represents the lunar center. Your eyes are closed and the focus is at the chin, bypassing the nose, I think, at least that is what I do. Thanks for sharing your insights.
