Guest guest
Leaf, Also, when doing four-part breath you need to use your entire breathing capacity, not just puff up your chest.... Take the air in through your nostrils, concentrating on filling the lower portion of your lungs first, allowing the abdomen to expand (part 1), then the area of your diaphram (part 2), then allow your ribs to expand out and to the sides (part 3) and finally, lift and fill your upper chest (part 4). As you exhale, feel the sternum area relax and fall, contract your ribcage and allow your diaphram and stomach areas to float back towards your spine (same 4 parts in reverse). I like to exhale through the nose as well, but some would say it is better to exhale through the mouth--your choice. Doing full four-part breathing slows your breathing significantly. Mine usually slows to about 4 cycles (inbreaths/outbreaths) per minute. Someone with more lung capacity/control might slow it even further. It is very relaxing.
