Hi Samantha,

Sikh practitioners fast on Monday as a rule. This comes, if I remember

correctly, from somewhere in the Siri Guru Granth Sahib (the Sikh sacred

book). I can't remember exactly why.

In India, Thursday is the traditional day for fasting (Monday would be the

second day). This is also a scriptural injunction. And since yoga comes from

India, it took those recommendations for fasting.

I am sorry I can't be more specific, but those Indian sacred books have

thousands of pages : )!

Many blessings,

greetings everyone,

>From Islam:

It has been reported that the Messenger of Allah (saas) fasted the second

and fifth days of the week, namely, Monday and Thursday. These two days,

as the Hadith explained, are the days in which, twice weekly, the deeds

are raised into the heavens and are the days of forgiveness. The Prophet

(peace be on him) mentioned that: “The deeds of the worshippers are

presented before Allah on Monday and Thursday, I like my deeds to be

presented while I am fasting.”

Jews fast on Mondays and Thursdays....

Christians don't fast on mondays and thursdays because they say the Jews

were conspiring against killing Paul.....

Some hindus fast on monday and thursdays as well.....

Well...all religions are the chapters of the same book and God has

revealed the same truth throughout the book.

Peace and Light,

The Truth Seeker.

Monday is the moon day and our glands and emotions are heavily influenced this

day so it is an important day to cleanse and let go and let our

glandular secretions circulate unimpeded. Thursday is the guru's day so it is an

act of humility and submission. The guru is the teacher of the

soul and by fasting that day we can more easily attune ourselves to that

reality. Taken together, we can see how when our emotions are purified

and our relationship to the guru is clear then it becomes much easier for our

mind to serve our soul.

Hope that helps
