Guest guest
Hare Krishna! Today is Janmastami, the appearance day of Lord Krishna, also known as Hari and Govinda, here on earth about 5,000 years ago. It is a major holiday in India and the biggest holiday at Radha Krishna temples all over the world. Devotees observe a fast until midnight when there is a grand artika (offering items of worship to the diety) and kirtan (congregational chanting)followed by a grand feast. The number of the day is different every year since it comes from a lunar calendar, which is indicated in the term Jansastami which has something to do with the eighth day. Here is a link that has some explaination: http://www.hknet.org.nz/calendar-janmastami.htm. Jaya Radhe Jaya Krishna!
