Hi,

I don't have the list operator's (Gordon) email so I just wanted to let

people know that I just received a virus from

"Anand K Iyengar" <anand2048 in a personal reply from an email

that I sent to this list....just so people are careful with what they open.

I don't know if this was done on purpose or not but all it said was "take a

look at the attachment". If this was deliberate, then that's just not cool

at all. If it was by mistake then it's time to run a virus check on your

computer.

Hi Kelly and All

Thank you for your message - you can always reach me at

kundaliniyoga-owner

The virus or worm to which you refer is almost certainly the SirCam Worm,

which has been doing the rounds for some weeks now.

First off, I would once more reassure all our rs that you are safe

reading any message from our list - all attachments, which may contain

harmful viruses or worms or trojan horses, are automatically stripped from

messages before they are sent out.

Secondly, this is not malicious, except on the part of the original virus

code writers. This worm, when it infects a computer, goes through the

address book and all stored Web pages looking for email addresses, and then

sends itself out in the form you mention, to every one of those addresses.

Unless you actually follow the instructions and open the attached file then

it can't infect your computer.

It is harmful. It is programmed to wipe out hard drives on every system it

infects, activating on October 16th. It can also fill up all your spare disk

space, slowing your computer right down or even making it unusable.

However, it is easy to remove. http://www.symantec.com contains full

instructions on how to do so.

The best advice, which I make no apologies for repeating on here, is to

NEVER open any attachments, even from folk you know, unless it is something

you are expecting to receive from them. If in any doubt, email the sender

first and check with them. Also, keep your antivirus software updated and in

constant background mode, and use it to scan all mail received. If you do

not know how to do this, then contact the vendor.

Sat Nam!

Gordon

Hi Gordon,

I didn't actually open the attachment so my computer is fine. I have a scan

on my email that automatically notifies me if there is a virus present..but,

as we know, many people don't have that.

Thanks again for the advice! :)
