First timer - body aches?

Hi, I'm new. 8) Maybe you get this question asked a lot but here

goes. I sort of mishap'ed into my very first kundalini yoga class. My

background is, I've taken a few hatha yoga classes at one time, and

studied martial arts seriously for a few years, and have worked

with 'high and low magick' to become more spiritually and astrally(?)

aware and to help me with spiritual/soul lessons.

So, when I went in, I figured that -any- sort of results would take

some time (and I certainly plan to go back) so that the disciplined

mindframe and techniques could develop properly. However, while

working on the heart chakra, the class stirred me up quite a bit

emotionally, and after class my body ached so bad I honestly almost

couldn't bear even lying still in any position at all. I just wanted

to toss my cookies and was very disoriented. I'm familiar enough with

physical stresses to know it wasn't the asanas or muscle fatigue nor

was I pushing myself too hard or overdoing the breathing techniques.

I'm expecting it was working with personal baggage trapped as knots

and such.

What I would really appreciate is if anyone would elaborate on why

the pain is felt after (at least why I did), similar experiences of

these body aches, and maybe even what portions of the body correspond

to what types of baggage are being worked with. Does it always

manifest this way, and if not, what else might people experience?

Maybe it manifests that way because I have more earth and very little

water? Anyway though, if anyone can share what they know, or know of

some excellent reading materials that covers what one might

experience and what exactly they correspond to in the psyche (trapped

anger, at whom depending on the body section, etc.), that would be

much appreciated too.

There has certainly been a positive/different feeling afterwards

(the 'processing'). I can hardly wait for the next class. 8)

Thank you so much!

In Light,

Tess

Hello, all,

My name is Chris Brennan, and I'm new to the list. I began practicing

Kundalini Yoga last April; I enjoy it and am very positively affected by it.

I was interested in Tess's body ache experience. I can't say that I have an

explanation, but I wanted to share what happened to me the first time I

practiced KY.

My teacher introduced me to breath of fire in a squatting pose with hands in

bear grip. It was easy for me to do breath of fire in this pose, but

suddenly I had a fierce headache at the top of my head and had to stop. My

teacher had me lie on my back and he massaged my feet a little. The

headache left almost as quickly as it had arrived.

I've experienced this headache one other time, when doing breath of fire in

table pose, but I was able to prevent its overwhelming me by moderating my

breathing.

After discovering this list, I went to the archive to see if I could find

postings about headaches related to breath of fire, but didn't find anything

similar to my experience. After reading Tess's posting, I wonder how common

it is for people to experience significant physical reactions of various

sorts in their initial practice.

I haven't had a breath-of-fire headache in recent months, so I'm assuming it

was a beginner's experience. Have other folks experienced anything similar

as beginners?

Chris
