Guest guest
Hello, Does anyone seem to know the differences between breathing thru the mouth and the nose? Is this secret information or something? I have two KY videos. In one, when we do the grinding exercise one teacher has us breathe in and out thru the nose while in the other video, a different teacher has us breathe in and out thru the mouth. Maybe it just really does not matter that much. Does it? Thanks for your help!
Guest guest
Hi Mouth breathing may be used for certain specific exercises, but yogic breathing is generally done through the nose. Normal everyday breathing should be also done through the nose, which warms and filters the air before it reaches your throat. There are also special functions associated with each nostril. Breathing through the left nostril is calming and stimulates the right side of the brain. The right nostril is energising and stimulates the left side of the brain. Alternate nostril breathing gives you balance. Guest guest
Excuse me if this has already been answered, but I am on the digest version and it appears that I get two (2) digests daily! Good work, everyone! As to why the difference between breathing from the mouth of the nose: The mouth is connected to the digestive system. Therefore, the air goes into our bellies, thus causing gas. The nose is connected to the respiratory system. Therefore, the oxygen goes directly into the lungs where it belongs first, and is then filtered throughout the body. Additionally, many sites that I teach Yoga use carpeting and/or the floors are filthy. When doing back exercises and our faces are close to the floor, you have a better chance of filtering the dirt/dust through the nose thanks to the little hairs called "cilia." If breathed through the mouth, get ready to cough it out. And, as was stated previously, when breathing through the nose, both nostrils represent different sides of the brain and body, energizing specific areas.
