Guest guest
Thanks so much SatGuru Singh. That was a beautiful explanation, it was similar to what I had been taught, but I had never heard this explained so clearly and precisely. I suppose we should all follow the path of our spiritual names. One Who Wins the Favor or One Who Wins was my given path. That means great things for me I hope. Sincerely, Jazz (Jasjit Kaur)
Guest guest
Someone asked about why so many of the names sound the same...well..to my understanding, the name Kaur is only for women and means "princess", while the name Singh is only for men and means "prince", while the name Khalsa means that you have taken up the Sikh faith. I also think that Khalsa only applies to North American Sikhs, but I'm not positive on that one. As far as the first name goes...I find them to all be rather unique. Especially when you look at how common many names are in America. When I was in grade school, there were 4 "kelly"s in my class, including me. If I'm wrong about the above, someone please correct me!! sat name, Kelly p.s. thanks for the insight into my impatience. _______________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp
Guest guest
Sat Nam Ji everyone: Im new in this list, I live in México and Im a K.Y. Instructor so please forgive my english if I write something incorrect. Im also a Sikh and I have been reading this message about Spiritual Names so Im going to tell what I know. Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the last human Guru of the Sikhs, create the Khalsa (Khalsa means pure one). A Khalsa is a Sikh that is baptized or "take the vows" as some of you said. A Khalsa can be an Indian, an American, a Brazilian, etc. Khalsa does not belong to a country, Khalsa is universal. Siri Singh Sahib (Yogi Bhajan) gives to us spiritual names to have like a path to follow, a guide of what you should do in this life, everytime that someone call you by your spiritual name is reminding you your path and the person you have to be. Sikhs in east get their names from the Siri Guru Granth Sahib, as soon as the mother can go out, the family go to the Gurdwara and humbly ask Siri Guru Granth Sahib for guidence, then open the Guru on a random page and look for the first letter of the Hukam, then that letter is taken, the parents choose a name that begins with that letter. Guru Gobind Singh said that every sikh woman should be Kaur (Princess) and every sikh man should be Singh (Lion). There are many names but we, in west have the unique chance of get our name from Yogi Bhajan. ¿How does he get your name? as some of you said he uses many techniques and give to us a unique name that could be same to others bur believe me, it is a real sweet chance. In every case the names that Yogi Ji gives are always in the Siri Guru Grant Sahib. A spiritual name is a serious thing, I have also a legal name (here in Mexico you cant change your name that easy), but the thing is, why ask a spiritual name when you will keep living as "Jhon Smith"? If you ask a spiritual name then live it! Thanks for reading this, and again, Im really sorry about my english. Humbly.
