asanas during pms

Hi all,

I've once read a book about yoga, said that during menstruatian women must avoid

certain asanas (especially with stretching the stomach/abdominal area),

consequently will cause internal bleeding in that specific area. Is there anyone

would like to share their opinions about this one? Thank'z.

Bless you all,

Well, the usual recommendation is that you refrain from inverted exercises,

like shoulderstand, and also breath of fire. It is really for the

individual to decide. I would also lean toward no stretch pose or double

leg lifts, but that is me.

Menstruation is a sacred inward cleansing time for woman. In many

indiginous cultures (Vedic and Native American)women would sort of drop out

of society for awhile and go to a womens' place to relax and meditate. They

would not go to sweat lodges, town meetings, cook, etc. Some say it is

because they were 'unclean', but there is another way of looking at it that

says they were getting a much deserved break! I think it is still good for

a woman to take it good and easy when she is menstruating. I've read some

really good stuff about the whole thing on the internet. I remember an

interview with a Native American lady. I really don't think it is 'womens'

liberation' to try to pretend we are the same and men and work like they do.

I also believe that a woman needs to be protected, not in a limiting sense,

but in a safe one.

Sat Nam,

It is said that during menstruation, if a woman's menses are heavy the

certain asanas would increase the flow. Personally, I just did the asanas.

I didn't notice a problem.

Blessings,

Samantha
