With all due respect for those who choose to make a rishi knot and tie a turban, it may well be good PR for Sikh-Americans to show allegiance to our Constitution by wearing small American flags or American flag pins on the front of their turbans. What about wearing red and white stripes on the sides, and the blue field with stars covering the rishi knot? Most media coverage of the Taliban shows a lot of black turbans. Just as most Irish- Americans separate themselves from the ongoing struggles in Northern Ireland, Sikh-Americans who symbolize their culture and faith with a turban may garner additional respect by emphasizing their American citizenship.
