Guest guest
Hi Dharam, Yes, I am tall and slender and am vata/pitta...however, recently I was talking with an ayurvedic practitioner and he mentioned that every person aside from their basic dosha(s) has a disease type or condition.. (ie..condition of, dryness, coldness, light, heaviness etc..) anyway, although I am thin he says my disease tendency (a way a body goes out of balance) is the condition of oiliness which is kapha based..although most of the symptoms do not comply with the standard a few very important ones do (blood sugar fluctuation etc.)...he told me to eat very minimal oils and fats(I told him I always have)..I wanted to know more so I asked him if their was a book I could buy that would verify this and their is one very good book he recommended, "Ayurveda Revolutionalized" by Edward F. Tarabilda. I am 5'8 and usually weigh 115 pounds but over the course of this year I gained 5 pounds and this has compounded with other kundalini based problems that I have been having...the 5 pounds extra bothers me and I am having the most difficult time getting it back off (because of my blood sugar and the need to eat so often to function---drives me crazy!!) There is a part of me that is totally set against my getting back to normal and getting the focus off the physical which demands so much extra attention now...I don't know, could be a part of me that refuses to give into spirit so is drawing all my attention to my body? I am always feeling tired and discouraged because of this unseen obstacle..(makes it all the harder to do asanas) I just don't feel "right" my body has gone haywire....I have never experienced anything quite like this before....I am only 28 years old!! If you make 3+ gallons of kichadi and use only 2 cups of rice----how much beans etc..do you use?.. I just made some kichadi and used 1 cup rice 1cup beans (thought more protein might be good) and 6 cups of water... I take triphala, gugul, ashwaganda, brahmi, and jatamansi on a regular basis...I am seriously considering going on a diet of mung beans and rice and yogi tea for a month or so---could this remedy my disturbance? I have the most severe allergies to ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING I sneeze constantly...I can't breathe well through the nose, menstruation irregularities and on and on... I don't think anything is seriously wrong but I am so frustrated.... Thank you for all of your help and I really do appreciate your replies. sat nam, michelle
Guest guest
First off, I almost didn't get see your reply. The clock on your computer is doing something weird...check it out. I sent my email at 11:48pm and yours somehow appeared to have been sent at 5:37pm. Please note that Mug Beans and Rice were prescribed for many people for all kinds of problems and imbalances - physical, mental, emotional, existential. I can take supplements 'til the cows come home but if my food isn't somehow healing to me then I will always have problems. You are not seeing that. Look very closely at the ingredients. Here in America we have become accustomed to the spices for the flavor only..... but that is not the reason for there being in our food. Ayurvedic viewpoint recognizes the subtle but powerful effects of all the things we ingest and take for granted. Also, see my email on liver. You may have to trust the recipe and just commit to trying it. Make it a priority and see what happens. La Dulce Vita, Dharam P.S. rice and beans are in the same proportion MUNG BEANS AND RICE also known as Kitcheree This is a perfect pre-digested food. It is easy on the digestive system and very nourishing. There is a story of a great sage who would prescribe this food to many who came to him for healing whether it was mental, spiritual or physical. Forty days later the issue was often resolved. The trinity root (onion, garlic and ginger) is incredibly "life-giving" and coupled with a yogic practice will increase Ojas, the subtle glue that holds together mind, body and soul. "You'll be seeing God" 1 cup mung beans 1 cup basmati rice 9 cups water 4-6 cups chopped assorted vegetables (carrots, celery, zucchini, spinach, chard, broccoli, etc.) 2 onions, chopped 1/3 cup minced ginger root 1 tsp. crushed red chilies 8-10 cloves garlic, minced 1 Tbsp. sweet basil 1 heaping tsp. turmeric 2 bay leaves 1/2 tsp. pepper seeds of 5 cardamom pods 1 heaping tsp. garam masala salt or Tamari to taste 1/2-cup Ghee (clarified butter) or vegetable oil Rinse beans and rice. Bring water to a boil, add rice* and beans and let boil over a medium flame. Prepare vegetables. Add vegetables to cooking rice and beans. Heat about 1/2-cup oil in a wok or large frying pan. I prefer a wok. Add onions and cook over medium-high heat until they start looking translucent, then add garlic. Add ginger just before adding spices and maintain heat until browning. If at any point you start noticing some sticking, go ahead and add more oil. Don't be shy especially if you're using ghee. Now add spices (not salt or herbs) starting with turmeric. Knock the heat down a notch. After 5 minutes add the garam masala and other spices. You can add a little water and cover, stirring occasionally. Very little sticking will happen at this level of heat but the masala really comes together with this treatment. This can go on for 20 minutes or so! When nicely done, add masala and veggies to mung beans and rice. Add herbs (basil and bay leaf). You will need to stir the dish often to prevent scorching. Continue to cook until completely well done over a medium-low flame, stirring often. The consistency should be rich, thick and soup-like, with ingredients barely discernible. Add water if in doubt. Serve with yogurt, or with cheese melted over the top. Sweet mango chutney and mild mango pickle help to make for a more satisfying experience. Serves 4-6. A few additional Cooking Tips: *To avoid scorching and sticking, you can precook the rice separately and add it to the mix just before the veggies go in. Also, cook the beans alone long enough that they split before you add anything to them. To help with "gas", soak your beans over night. Adding tamari or salt to mixture while cooking allows for better assimilation. m wrote: > Hi Dharam, > > Yes, I am tall and slender and am vata/pitta...however, recently I was > talking with an ayurvedic practitioner and he mentioned that every person > aside from their basic dosha(s) has a disease type or condition.. > (ie..condition of, dryness, coldness, light, heaviness etc..) anyway, > although I am thin he says my disease tendency (a way a body goes out of > balance) is the condition of oiliness which is kapha based..although most of > the symptoms do not comply with the standard a few very important ones do > (blood sugar fluctuation etc.)...he told me to eat very minimal oils and > fats(I told him I always have)..I wanted to know more so I asked him if > their was a book I could buy that would verify this and their is one very > good book he recommended, "Ayurveda Revolutionalized" by Edward F. > Tarabilda. > I am 5'8 and usually weigh 115 pounds but over the course of this year I > gained 5 pounds and this has compounded with other kundalini based problems > that I have been having...the 5 pounds extra bothers me and I am having the > most difficult time getting it back off (because of my blood sugar and the > need to eat so often to function---drives me crazy!!)
