Guest guest
Sat Nam, A few points which have not been mentioned in reference to cold showers. First, never take a cold shower immediately after doing yoga or meditation. This is akin to putting a very hot bottle in the freezer in the effect on your spine. Secondly, if you want to take a warm shower, for whatever reason, it can be taken after the cold shower without losing the benifits of the cold. In my opinion, this is often helpful for people who have difficulty with getting a lot of internal cold easily. At any rate, it is very important to get warm after the cold shower. The original recipte was to wrap yourself up in a warm towel or warm clothing until you are very warm. Thirdly, one of the first recipes given was to aid the integration of the nervous system: a warm bath until the skin is shrivelled a little, followed by a cold shower. Guest guest
Sat Nam, from Mark's point about NOT to have cold shower after doing yoga or meditating, how long the time will take for this safely? Because usually every morning after I get up, do yoga then have my breakfast and take cold bath, then finally go to work - is my habitual will affect negatively to my body? Thank you, Eri
Guest guest
The idea is not to cold shower right afterwards. Following some daily routine where your energy has more or less returned to normal is fine. The spine needs time to cool. Guest guest
Sat Nam Eri, I use to do the same thing you did, except for the cold bath. I use to think I would need a shower after yoga. But when you are at Summer Solstice, everyone (almost everyone) takes there shower before yoga. I have gotten use to taking my cold shower when I first get up, before my practice and find no need for a shower after. I do the same as you, take a cold shower after sadhana, (I sweat very easily) but I wait from 20-30 mins. to cool down. I rinse first with lukewarm water, put on shorts, and then switch little by little to cold. >From Mark's point about not going to cold shower right after sadhana , I got the same recommendation from a Qi Gong teacher before starting to practice KY.
