Sat Nam,

Technically speaking, it is a dormant energy lying at the base of the

spine. And, according to Yogi Bhajan it comes from the root word Kundala

(ring) meaning a: "Lock of the beloveds hair", or more easily interpreted;

"The uncoiling of your being." It is an art, science and technology.

Hindu Religion states that it is the female serpent energy (Shakti) coiled

face down, three and one half times around the base of ones spine. The

three coils represent the three qualities of nature (gunas): Orderliness,

the quality of goodness in everything natural (Sattva); the principle of

activity or restlessness (Rajas); and darkness, inertia, ignorance (Tamas).

(superscript: Note)

Stone scriptures document the use of yogic postures at least as early

as 4000 B.C

This power (shakti) is said to be sleeping until awakened, spontaneously or

by yogic techniques, and arises to unite with the Universal energy (prana),

empowering beyond ordinary awareness and perception, and powers (siddhis).

Certain belief has it that the Goddess Shakti awakens from her deep slumber

and at last reunites with the God, Siva ? dancer in the Universe. It is

this awakened Shakti that illumines the yogi, offering liberation (mukta)

and knowledge (jnuana), simply because she is that ? also known as

Sarasvati. It is as though certain realization's within you begin to

occur. Answers to questions slowly emerge i.e.: What is Life?

Humbly, Bhagavati
