Greetings Everyone. I am Gwen and I am brand spankin' new to Kundalini. My

first experience with yoga were classes at the Eugene Yoga Center in Oregon.

There, a typical yoga class involved mantras, eye exercises, a series of gentle

postures, 20 minutes of relaxation and tea - which was served by our teacher as

a way to invite students to stay and ask questions about yoga, life, and beyond.

Though I have studied yoga since then and have taken many classes, I have found

that much of Western Yoga lacks what my first classes offered. Now, I am

teaching yoga and I very much want to recreate the atmosphere of the Eugene Yoga

Center in my classes. I am intuitively drawn to Kundalini as I believe it is

the source that will guide me towards a deeper and more meaningful practice and

will guide my teaching. At this point, the only manual I have is Gururattana's

Transitions to a Heart Centered World. Other than that, I have never taken a

class and own no books, cassettes, or videos on Kundalini Practice. I would

very much appreciate guidance about how to take the very first step.

Thank you,

Gwen

Hi, Gwen,

Thanks for your introduction. I enjoyed your description of classes at the

Eugene Yoga Center and your desire to recreate this atmosphere in your

classes.

In your posting, you asked for guidance on taking the first step in KY

practice. I'm not one to offer firm guidance -- I'm pretty new to Kundalini

Yoga myself -- but I can tell you what has helped beginner me.

For me, having a teacher has been vital to getting started. Are there any

KY teachers in your area? The 3HO website (http://www.3ho.org/) has a

directory of certified teachers.

I, too, have Gururattan's book "Transitions to a Heart-Centered World", and

it's been a great resource. There are certain kriyas and meditations I have

an affinity for and keep returning to, and this repetition reinforces my

practice. Knowing a set well enough so I don't have to stop and read the

directions each step of the way is very helpful.

You mention that you're intuitively drawn to Kundalini. I've found that

when I can't connect with my teacher (which is the case lately due to my

schedule), an inner teacher arises and helps me. For example, I was doing a

meditation that involved mantra, and I wasn't sure about the speed. I was

chanting along at quite a clip, and the inner voice said, "slow down". I

did, and that made a big difference.

This list, too, is a fine resource. I appreciate all those who ask

questions and share their experiences.

Sat Nam,

Chris B

Hi Preeti

May I offer you a belated welcome to Kundalini Yoga.

Your mail has been going to the correct address, as all your messages have

been posted to the list. However that doesn't guarantee you a reply. A lot

depends on what you write about and when, and how many folk feel motivated

to reply.

Rather than trying to initiate new discussions, why not just join in one

that is already underway.

Please remember to edit your replies to remove any non-relevant material

from the original message, including old message trailers.

I hope you enjoy your time on the list.

Sat Nam!

Gordon

Dear Preeti,

No one is assigned to answer questions, we all just answer what we can when

we can. So sometimes certain questions don't get answered. So we invite

people to ask again. Which is what you are doing. Great.

As I remember one question was can everyone have a spiritual name. The

answer is yes. Someone else will supply the address and how to request it.

I think another question is where to get started. This question is answered

when you joined in a letter explaining about our www.kundaliniyoga.org site

and our kytraining lessons. There is so much material available there. The

first step is to familiarize yourself with this material.

Thanks for being persistent!

Sat Nam,

Gururattan Kaur
