Guest guest
I lived in Fairbanks for 12 years. The first time I saw a "swarm" of mosquitoes I freaked and that seemed to attract more of them. That summer I worked in the Bush and used mosquito netting and long sleeves. I was covered and learned to relax and gave up the protection after a month. In the subsequent years I never saw such a swarm again. I think that I just didn't catch their attention. Lately, I eat 2 cloves of garlic and I eat a B vitamin complex. Both are well known to help reduce your "sweetness" to these little buggers. As a last resort use a repellent containing DEET. If West Nile virus, Lyme disease or encephalitis is a reality than get real! Dharam
Guest guest
Mosquitos are attracted to all mammals through our constant release of Carbon Dioxide. I just went outside and tried the breathing exercise given earlier today by Ronen. It works great with Ga gnats and the Black & White stripped Mosquitos. Before I did my experiment the normal amount of gnats were all in my face and I saw several mosquitos,(one bit me on my arm-even in the broad day sun -these things are monsters) After I did the breathing for about 10 min- nothing was flying around me anymore. No gnats were on my face-this is totally NOT the norm for the Southern Ga area- there are always gnats in your face. this kept me bug free and lasted even after I started to move around and do some yard things. So-this totally works great (for me.) Try it before you knock it! I think that before today when I would normally put up my "mosquito force field" I was sort of doing this same thing only not with so much "order" and thought involved. I will do this great exercise from now on for bugs. Many thank you's Guru Tera Kaur
Guest guest
dear Avtar, i understand your perspective and admire your courage. do you have a specific practice that you could share on how to reinforce ones energy field to act like a shield in situations when one may feel uncomfortable. love to you Stephen
Guest guest
One more piece of advice about being bothered by mosquitos....avoid eating bananas before going outside. Seems that attracts them. Sat Nam, Di
Guest guest
Dear Stephen, Nothing very specific. I do try in certain situations to mentally create that space around myself. Years ago I learned to do a little routine in the morning ( when I remember , which isn't very often !) which is combing ones aura. You just run your fingers down through you aura from the crown of your head on down like a comb - raking through would be a good description. One thing I would definitely suggest is that in uncomfortable situations start mentally repeating a mantra - something simple like Sat Nam or something else that appeals to you which will shift your focus completely. It is amazing how well this helps. Thanks everyone for the continuing suggestions on mosquitos. I'm really glad I asked !! Love, Avtar ______________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Guest guest
while you're talking to them, you might mention that you understand and honor that they are just mothers trying to give birth to their offspring, but your health requires that you ask them to look elsewhere for what they need. I was doing a spirit circle recently, my hands firmly placed on the ground, drawing on Mother Earth. A mosquito lit on my hand and started to bite me. I chose to let her take what she needed without disturbing her. I felt her bite, but it left no bump, no itch, no mark of any kind. Not saying that would work all the time; but it might help to acknowledge why the mosquitos are biting. I'm going to try the vanilla and the aura strenghtening and breathing exercises and will let you know the results. During my meditation today I talked to the insects, mentally clearing a space around me and told them to stay out of it, assuring them I meant them no harm. We'll see what happens ! I suggest you reading the book to grasp the whole meaning behind the interaction of the energies of our intent with our immediate surroundings. And I think the Inst. might have his cassettes for practice. And the other very popular book in the early '90's, was James Redfield's book called "The Celestine Prophecy", where there is a more elaborate exercise on how to master the capacity of communicating with plants and the vegetable world. Guest guest
Mosquitoes can not tolerate wind. Keep a fan going, and they will stay out of the room. (ceiling fan works best) shoshana
Guest guest
Hello, all, Would you mind to share that information with me too, please. I've been attracting moscitoes always, and now spiders as well. I don't know what to do to prevent the bites, which give me a lot of troubles. Guest guest
I realize this is not the season in most areas in the Northern Hemisphere but I found some interesting info. See below Catnip vs. Mosquitoes While cats seem to love the stuff, and humans are pretty neutral about it, mosquitoes seem to really hate catnip. Joel Coats of Iowa State University and Chris Peterson of the US Forest Service have found that concentrations of the essential oil of catnip, which are much lower than those required for common repellents such as DEET, are highly effective at keeping mosquitoes away. This will come as no surprise to many people who know that catnip has a folk reputation as an insect repellent, but its amazing effectiveness combined with worries about DEET may make it an attractive alternative. Guest guest
According to Susun Weed the US Military have found that yarrow is as effective as Deet in repelling mosquitos. She recomends diluting tincture of yarrow, and applying to all areas of exposed skin. Sat Nam Avtar ______________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Juno offers FREE or PREMIUM Internet access for less!
