Guest guest
Greetings everyone, I have decided to come to you with a problem which I need help. Over the last weekend I had an emotional shock which turned into a psychodrama. Once I regained my senses and started breathing again, I found that I have sharp pain in the upper-left quadrant of my back from the spine out. I know that it is stress related but I can't release it. It has now turned into quite a thing. I have numbness in my left arm and am unable, for the first time in months, to do my asanas or even my breathing meditations. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have tried "shrugging" it off, releasing the thoughts, etc.... Suggestions? Sat Nam, Mary P.
Guest guest
I think that you must try with Shiatsu therapy, it is really effective to aleviate the muscle and nerves cramps that you get with the excesive streess, Namaste, Rafael _______________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp
Guest guest
Hello Mary: I recommend you to try acupuncture, there is a very important point related to stress, below the shoulder joint, about 2 inches towards the spine. I've been treated there for stress relief, besides some other points in the back and the head. An acupuncturist must know. Hope this helps, Carlos location you mention, the upper-left > quadrant of my back > from the spine out --- mapayton5942 wrote: > Greetings everyone, > > I have decided to come to you with a problem which I > need help. Guest guest
hi Mary P., please be sure you are not short of breath with this pain or you should see a doctor right away since it has not gone away.. on the lighter side I think, I have had a sharp pain in my upper back for quite some time that was just off of my spine in the upper to mid shoulder blade area. I believe this was related to stress that I held inside. when I was able to release it. I got acupuncture, massage to break up the stagnation in the area. as this was going on which took several months, I had to finally deal with those pent up emotions and release them once and for all, as I did this and the acu, and massage, I can honestly say it is almost gone. take it easy with the asana until you get relief from the pain as I am sure you can tell anything aggravates it. I also took herbs to move qi and blood to get rid of the stagnation, as where there is stagnation in the body, there is PAIN, God bless you on your recovery, Sat Nam, Melanie
Guest guest
Mary-, >From a neuromuscular perspective....... The deep muscles underneath the rhomboids (between shoulder blades and spine) are the serratus posterior muscles. These are the muscles that connect your ribs and they are intimately connected with breathing. When there is emotional shock or trauma and one's breathing is stifled for an extended period of time, these muscles can become taught, causing a stabbing pain that pierces the back (and feels like one is actually being stabbed in the back) or can radiate out from the spine (as you described). This can cause pressure on the nerve and contribute to numbness in the arms and radiating or referred pain. Because these muscles are affected by the diaphragm, massaging them or trying to release them directly does not help. Start with the breath. Breathe deeply, allowing the posterior ribs to fully expand in the back. Slow, deep breathing will help you recover from the psychodrama, release the diaphragm, and open up your ribs. Then, go get some body work! You will be much more receptive to it. Guest guest
<br><br><br>The only limitations I have are those I impose upon myself. Carlos, Melanie and Gwen, I wish to thank you all for the suggestions. I do feel that what happened is a physical manifestation of the emotional stress that I had. I have been trying to breathe deep and relax. I have also been releasing alot of pent-up emotions the last few days. I know that my body is telling me that I can't hold anymore on my shoulders and to let go. In the mean time, I guess I'll just wait until asanas are a little more feasible and go get some acupuncture and a good massage. Thank you, MaryP. _______________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp
Guest guest
Sat Nam Mary P, I have found that Arnica is a wonderful homeopathic to take for shock and any kind of trauma. It helps the life force of the body to heal. Also some body work my be quite helpful. Blessings, Samantha
