Guest guest
Gordon, Hi. I don't know how difficult an undertaking it is, but I wish you would consider moving the list to another provider, one which doesn't pop up advertising messages. I personally will not be around for much longer on any list. I have enough crass commercialism in my face all day every place. Can't take it no more! Guest guest
Dear Kartar Kaur I do not normally discuss list policy in public, but as you have raised the issue I will on this occasion break my rule. is far from ideal. In fact, in many other ways apart from the intrusive advertising, sucks. When this list was started 3 years ago it was with OneList, who were subsequently absorbed by eGroups, who in turn couldn't wait to get into bed with the devil himself! Moving the list would not be a big deal, but the collateral damage would be considerable. For a start we would lose over 3 years of messages, a valuable archive which even now is not being fully utilized. We are desperately in need of a volunteer willing to sacrifice vast amounts of their spare time to delve in there and try to make some kind of sense out of them in the form of a comprehensive Frequently Asked Questions section which would be an extremely useful addition to the Kundalini Yoga Website. The individual who took on the mucking out of this modern day version of the Augean Stables would be forever in our debt. We also have links to this list from all over the Internet. Rooting out these and getting them amended would be another major job if the move were to take place. For the immediate future, our best hope is that gets fed up with running - just as it has recently gotten fed up with running Webrings - an institution which it took over last year and virtually destroyed - and passes all the lists into more interested and caring hands. Further to that I can say no more. Sat Nam! Gordon - "rasheedaas" <rasheedaas > Gordon, > > Hi. Guest guest
Hi Kartar Kaur, Gordon and all, I've been intending to try some of the free firewall software I've read about(a firewall = software or hardware that allows you to enforce rules that you set for what is allowed in and out of your computer from the Internet). There's an excellent article on personal firewalls on the Gibson Research Corp's website (http://grc.com/su-firewalls.htm). You can download free firewalls from the Internet Zone Alarm (hhtp:/www.zonelabs.com/), Sygate (http://www.sybergen.com/products/shield_ov.htm), and Tiny (hhtp://www.tinysoftware.com/pwall.php). I've heard these freeware firewalls have varying degrees of effective and ease of use. Some say they are as good as anything you can buy. Thanks for bringing this up; it's not technically related to our discipline, but the spiritual impact of these crass invasions, and our ability to do something about that, is certainly relevant. One last thing: the article where I found the freeware sites says, "Be aware that once you install a personal firewall, you will start seeing things that will probably make you really paranoid. But at least you will be secure in knowing you are paranoid." I have no idea what that means!
