I think that what Preeti is trying to say and figure out in her spiritual journey is that all she needs is her spiritual connection with the divine. There are many things that facilitate this connection. We rely on these things ( chanting, mantras, meditation, yoga, alters, pictures of spiritual teachers) to help us develop our personal direct connection to the infinite and maintain it. All these "things" are techniques that help us cultivate a higher vibration so that we become one with the infinite vibration. The process of cultivating our divine connection is subtle and tricky. And this is probably what Saurabh is referring to. We can become attached to the techniques and miss the connection. One guideline is to always concentrate on how we feel. Then we use the technique to bring us to the feeling and are not thinking about the teacher, picture, meaning of the mantra, etc. My prayer for everyone this new year is that you establish and embellish your divine connection.
