Guest guest
The purpose of yoga is to prepare one's self for meditation by making the breath harmonious. Mornings are rough for me, too. I don't begin to settle in unless I do my Ishnaan (cold shower). This is key to "overcoming my inertia". One thing I find is if I get up after 6am I am in for trouble. I am much better if I arise at 3:30am (even if only after 2-3 hours sleep), do Sadhana from 4 - 6am and then back to bed for the balance of my sleep needs. In those wee hours when only saint, thieves (and some truck drivers) are awake, the subconscious mind is wide open to you. Sometimes simply sitting up and chanting a bij mantra for 3 minutes is so deep. You wont necessary feel it then but when you wake up for real you will feel very different. It's a scary time time and Yogiji has said that we are confronting our fear of death by getting up in this time. The doors are wide open during the ambrosial hours. Sat Nam, Dharam P.S. I am sending you a short read by Swami Rama The breeze at dawn has secrets to tell you. Don’t go back to sleep. You must ask for what you really want. Don’t go back to sleep. People are going back and forth across the doorsill where the two worlds touch. The door is round and open. Don’t go back to sleep. Rumi I have a number of students who are not doing their practice alone at home. The group experience is a help but one must overcome this block soniyasokhi wrote: > Sat Nam..........although i am practising silent meditation(well just > for 3 minutes......!!!!)....................i am unable to do the > yoga Asanas or Pranayam in the mornings................ > I would like some giudance as to when am i supposed to meditate....... > > Is it Very much neccessary to Yoga Asanas and Pranayam before i do > meditation...............or is it ok if i meditate in the mornings > and do Yoga Asanas..........in the afternoons................. > > Sat Nam, > > Soniya. > > Today's Quote: > Love has no beginning............. >

Doing some pranayam or a warming up exercise before starting a meditation can be helpful. In my experiences if I tried to go staight into a meditation after rolling out of bed, I wouldn't get into it. I would feel lethargic, be yawning, wondering why on earth I was out of bed anyway. I find the basic spinal energy series - a (the slightly simpler version) wakes me up. (This takes me about15 - 20 mins) after which I find it very easy to do a silent meditation. Even you haven't got much time you may still find it helpful to do a warming up exercise or breathing exercises first for five or ten minutes.
