Guest guest
Mary & all, I dropped out of a yoga class too. I was about the same age as the others but had put on weight so even the "gentle class" had poses I could not do. Poses that are supposed to be relaxing, like bringing 'knees into the chest' or 'child's pose' were very uncomfortable for me with my thick middle. Yet these were done very often in this class (I hated and came to resent it). I already was feeling bad about myself being overweight so it didn't help my self-esteem not to be able to participate fully in even a gentle class. (yes, that's my ego but we do all have one of those) The thing is, I didn't need gentle. I needed something more energetic but doable. Like you, Mary, I found and use Nirvair Singh ad Ravi Singh videos which I love. Learning how to do adaptations is so important. I have also talked to my yoga teacher, (who is also a friend) about her creating a class for round bodies. Devinderjit
