Guest guest
Sat Nam Yogis and Yoginis, A friend of mine experiences regular migraines and I would like to help him. Can anyone recommend a non-chemical way to relieve the pain of migraines? I realize the best remedy is prevention, but is there anything to do for someone, yogically-speaking, once the pain has set in? In this case, the migraine pain source seems to be related to lower-back nerve damage from a botched spinal tap. (My friend contracted menangitis while in Latin America). So far, I have him doing the spinal warm-up set. Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance! Jai Gopal Kaur Sports - sign up for Fantasy Baseball http://sports. Guest guest
I used to have very severe classic migraines (actually went blind each time during the aura phase) -I had to take sunitriptan(sp?) injections! A few things that helped: Get into a dark room fast! Immediately during first signs of aura put hands and preferably feet (not always appropriate) into water as hot as you can stand -this dialates the blood vessels -this stopped a few not all for me. Also, if you bend your arm there is a accupressure point in the fleshy inner crease at the elbow (you know you've hit it if you get a dull achey pain) press on this -I've used the eraser end of a pencil, As you may have noticed I said I used to have migraines... I do not anymore 1. I quit my stressful job and started my own business 2. I work at being positive, optimistic and happy 3. I eat correctly 4. I exercise and meditate Damn good thing too, the injections cost $70 each and I no longer have health insurance! hope this helps sat nam -cris On Monday, March 4, 2002, at 01:03 PM, Andrea wrote: > Sat Nam Yogis and Yoginis, > > A friend of mine experiences regular migraines and I > would like to help him. > > Can anyone recommend a non-chemical way to relieve the > pain of migraines? Guest guest
----Original Message Follows---- Andrea <jaigopalkaur <snip>Can anyone recommend a non-chemical way to relieve the pain of migraines?</snip> Hello! I suffer from migraines as well. They started when I underwent a major life change a few years ago. I do take medication when I get one, but I discovered a mudra which worked really well to counteract the migraine last time I had an attack. I held it for a good 20 minutes or more while lying down and breathing as peacefully as possible, and I could feel it take effect immediately and gradually help the pain pass. The Mahasirs Mudra (big-head mudra) Hold the tips of the thumb, pointer finger, and middle finger together. The ring finger is tucked into the fold of the thumb-pad and the little finger is extended. Do with both hands. This mudra is good for any kind of headache... unfortunately a migraine is much, much more than just a headache! So it really only helps with that aspect of it. I still experienced the palsy, nausea, and other things I usually get with a migraine seizure. But the mudra helped the headache part! I am also interested in any other information about preventing migraines through Kundalini Yoga or other natural means, as well as for relief when one does occur!! THANKS!!! Guest guest
Sat Nam Jai Gopal Kaur, A person who suffers with migraines pretty much knows when an attack is coming on. The only thing I can share with you is when they know it is coming, take 2 cold compresses. One for the forehead and one for the back of the neck and have them lay down in a darken room. This usually helps. Also massage or bodywork maybe beneficial. Good Luck. Samantha > > > > >

I used to suffer terrible migraines, and was treated with acupuncture, I'm fine now. BTW, the migraines were diagnosed by several family doctors, but the the doctor that did acupuncture was not so sure. Now that I'm headache free most of the time, I really don't care what they are called... shoshana

Migraines are usually symptoms of deeply embedded, painful emotions from earlier in life. When SHEN's clinically established techniques clear the emotions, these symptoms usually disappear or dramatically improve. You can find a practitioner nearest you by emailing SHEN_ISTA. Guest guest
I am a neurologist and so I am familier with many effective drug treatments; Nevertheless, I would strongly recommend acupuncture. I have had it myself for my own migraines and it is very effective. Guest guest
There is a book "The Pain Cure" by Dr. Dharma Singh Khalsa, MD that has a whole chapter on migraines that I was quite impressed by. You or your friend might want to check it out.
