Guest guest
Hi all, I have only just joined this group and have been reading the many interesting posts. I do have one important question for anyone who can clear it up. I have come across "Sahaja Yoga"; it has over the years become fairly popular. The technique is VERY different to KY. In fact from what I have read of SY, there is no technique. The idea is an old one and relates to Shaktipat. This is where someone with an awakened kundalini can awaken another person's kundalini. A bit like a candle once lit can light another candle. I just want to know if anyone has been to any of these SY lessons or knows anything about them. I have read a lot of negative material across the net about SY and its founder Shri Mataji or "Holy Mother". Some web-sites have depicted it as a cult! I'm not sure if any of it is true though. Also, can Kundalini Yoga be combined with SY, since they both based on the same (Indian) Chakra system? My main goal is enlightenment. I have been searching for a long time and gave up. I have only just started again –this time using the internet and have found many yoga paths. SY seems too good to be true, which is why I am cautious about it. I look forward to following through all of the lessons of KY (I've just started the first yesterday) Thanks Take care, Jaspal
Guest guest
I haven't been online for a month and I have 212 emails from this group so I am skimming through some of them and I can't see that anyone has answered this very important question so I will take a shot at telling you what I know which is minimal but may help a little. I once went to see a very holy lady, Shri Anandi Ma, at a yoga center. She lead us in a meditation and then you could make an appointment to receive Shaktipad from her the next day for a large sum of money. This is common in some forms of yoga practice. I don't have a problem with the money exchange, I'm just saying what happened. I was not interested in receiving Shaktipad from her, however, because Yogi Bhajan teaches that you must achieve your own Shaktipad through your own practice. Generally speaking, Shaktipad, is a level that you achieve on your way to the highest level which is enlightenment. I think it is the third level. I'm sorry I can't explain it better but I hope that this stimulates some discussion about it. Probably some folks out there who study the vedas can respond to the levels one must achieve on the way to enlightenment. If I find my notes on the subject, I'll fill in more details later. Guest guest
Sat Nam, From what I've read of Yogiji's teachings, he is also very big on stressing that nothing can happen without grace and that nothing is separate from God's will. If the opportunity for shaktipat arises, that too is a manifestation of God's will. The decision you make on whether to receive it or not is God's will. An opportunity to receive shaktipat is a manifestation of God's grace as well. Shaktipat can be a wonderful life changing experience. The important thing to remember is that a true teacher will teach you or guide you to the technology to bring about that state of consciousness in yourself. That is one of the things that Kundalini Yoga is so great for. Your Brother in Spirit Natesh
