Guest guest
Sat Nam, Chanting outloud, wispering and silent have different effects. They are all effects that we wish to cultivate so do what you can. Obviously if you feel uncomfortable or have others bothering you because you chant outloud this should be avoided. Divine sounds or mantras are how we join earth and ether, the physical and the etheric vibrations. Chanting allows us to incorporate or create divine imprints in our human expression. I find that chanting outloud works on the emotional body. The vibration of the chanted mantras is more substantive and is able to effect the vibration of the emotional body which is even more substantive than sound itself. The trick is to get the sound to impact the emotional body and chanting out loud merges the divine vibration with the frequency of the emotions. This calms down the emotions and helps us achieve emotional healing and balance. Silent chanting or repetition of mantras allows us to focus inside our inner space. We can consciously replace the thoughts of our rational mind with other messages. Inner chanting can be a disciplined practice to train the mind to tune into something else than our wondering thoughts. Overtime we will respond with mantras instead of our past programming. I remember how thrilled I was the winter morning early 80's in Millis MA ashram when my alarm went off at 3:45 am and my mind reacted with Sat Nam instead of ###XXX. :+) Sometimes when we chant outloud we miss the inner focus and do not hear the inner vibration. Inner chanting is more subtle and will facilitate inner hearing. We definitely want to cultivate inner hearing as this is how we listen to the divine sound, Aum, the Nam and the Word. It is important to simply listen to the inner sound after we have chanted, whether outloud or silently. Sometimes we will hear the mantra repeat itself inside our head. Sometimes we will simple hear the sound of silence. In either case focusing on the sound and the vibration in our body and mind is very important. >Maybe if you listened to headphones you could sort of move your tongue inside your mouth along with the words to feel some of the vibration. This is a good idea. There are so many ways we can be with the sounds and integrate them into our being. Experiment and indulge in the pleasure of the inner experience that you are able to create with your practice.
