Guest guest
Sat Nam Lanzone, Interesting subject. My approach to teaching is that I am just a conduit. And whatever I decide to teach that morning is, well.. what I decided to teach. I can (and have) stand back and judge it a good or bad class. But usually not. I figure its not about me, students are coming because they're on a path too. Yes, I've felt some resistance from time to time from female students, very rarely. I just try to teach the kriya the way it is supposed to be taught, if my energy is too male, well I'm a man. If that's the problem a student has, maybe that's about them and if they decide not to come back, maybe thats about them too. My intention is not to come off as arrogant, but early on I struggled with the question many teachers have. Why didn't he or she come back? This is how I learned to put it into proper perspective. Often students come to a Kundalini class with Hatha experience, and so their point of reference is that yoga is "mediation through motion", I try to address that at the beginning of class by asking if there is anyone with previous yoga experience. That way its not as foreign to them. In wrapping this up I'd just like to say that I don't do a victory dance when I have repeat students (I encourage them)and I don't beat myself up because someone didn't come back. I know I got off topic slightly Lanzone. My advice, just project who you are, when you teach, and don't be concerned about bias. Guest guest
Brad, thanks for your reply. You hit the nail on the head--it's important to view yourself as a conduit, and most of all as yourself (male or female). Sat nam Lanzone
