Guest guest
Dear ALL, I have now completely finished my 40 day sadhana of Kirtan Kriya. I have really noticed how people from past relationships have been coming into my thoughts, dreams and even meditations. Just popping up from nowhere. I found myself thinking about and missing past boyfriends, or feeling regrets or guilt about the way I treated people before I was more conscious. Although it is mainly past love relationships, I even had a dream about a girl who bullied me when I was at school! Someone who I've not thought about for years. I am fascinated to know how and why this is happening. Can anyone lend detailed ideas as to the way the mind works with this meditation. I feel as though perhaps all these thoughts and feeling have been there all along but I wasn't aware of them, so where were they??? I'm a little suprised to find it all coming up after so much time. Guest guest
Sat Nam Krishan, I have now completely finished my 40 day sadhana of Kirtan Kriya. CONGRATULATIONS! Way to hang. Personally, I believe all of that is buried deep, whether we felt it was important or not, it did make an imprint on us, so we hold on to it. Guest guest
Hi Brad, __ CONGRATULATIONS! Way to hang. Thanks, yes at some points it was definitely hanging, but I would love to say to all those of you out there who are attempting a 40 day Kriya or Meditation, and are passing through a difficult (that may even be too light a word) patch, stick with it, see it through and "keep up!". I'm so glad I did. I really doubted at some points that I would ever make it to the end, I even wandered if it wasn't making me worse rather than better. I can't say I'm floating on cloud 9 or anything super snazzy like that, but I must say that I do feel all around more balanced and aware... and isn't that what we're after in the long run anyway? __Personally, I believe all of that is buried deep, whether we felt __it was important or not, it did make an imprint on us, so we hold __on to it. Buried deep where? That's what I'm wandering. I've got YB's book 'The mind', which I've only dipped into so far, where he talks about the different 'aspects' of our mind and the 'projections' etc. I've always had a bit of a hard time trying to figure out the mind ;-), exactly what it is and which parts of it do what. So just where, would all these funny feelings about different past partners be stored, which part of my mind was holding it and how does the meditation effect that part of me, which I'm not even aware of (sorry perhaps a few too many questions at once there :+) It's strange because I didn't have these strong feelings of guilt or regret about my behaviour in the past, but now it's coming up. I even went so far as to write to a man whose feelings I hurt once by not being sensitive to the fact that I knew he liked me a lot and wanted relationship, to say sorry! Sat Nam.. Guest guest
Krishan, "So just where, would all these funny feelings about different past partners be stored," Hard to say huh? I saw a Discovery channel show on memory and it likened the 'recalling' of information to an elevator going to different levels/areas in our brain where we 'park' info. Massage therapists say that muscles even contains 'past life' memory. Maybe we could get someone more knowledgable to comment. "how does the meditation effect that part of me, which I'm not even aware of" complex, I think. I know the way some of the meditations work, such as #21 on Kundaliniyoga.org, the mudras together with the mantra 're-pattern' the brain waves? (sorry perhaps a few too many questions at once there :+) Never, too many questions. Fun to talk about. More interesting than accounting :-) Sat Nam Brad
Guest guest
Dear Krishan Shiva Kaur, Sat Nam. Please allow me to add my voice to the chorus: CONGRATULATIONS! A 40 day sadhana of any flavor is a life- changing event, and Kirtan Kriya is one of the "best" -- the main thing is that you DID it, and the benefits are (therefore) automatically yours. (I'll never forget the first and second times I chanted "Long Ek Ong Kar" for 40 days -- ecstasy beyond belief, toward the end, and I've never been the since!) As to why some of your "ancient" personal history should arise in some of your dreams, thoughts, and meditations, well hey, congratulations AGAIN! That's exactly what's SUPPOSED to happen! Such practices are designed to do a kind of "mental & emotional housecleaning" -- which is accomplished by your calm (unemotional) awareness of WHATEVER your mind presents you with for review or analysis. By "re-observing" some of your past thoughts & feelings (about such important things as relationships) in a tranquil state, you give yourself PERMISSION to let go of your past. It will not trouble you further! Guest guest
Sat Nam, It seems to me that in many ways the body is simply the place the memories call home. But memory is a kind of field, like the magnetic field where your computer stores all its memories. When you do a meditation like satanama for instance, one that really addresses the totality of your person, that first thing that happens is you start to defrag so all the bits and pieces pass through consciousness on their way to being reorganised into a coherent field of information that can then be accessed when you need it. Until that reorganistion is done memories act like little bits of time that you step in and out of, thus fragmenting your state of being into now.........and then....usually at the same time, except for those parts of memory that are so well fragmented that when they are triggered, you completely lose the now. That's called disassociation.
