Dear Group,

I have really enjoyed reading all of the postings. I'm writing to inquire

if anyone has any suggestions for me on the issue of diet. It has been a

'difficult' area for many years. After many attempts to 'heal' this area (a

varietyof diets - from normal to crazy to alternative -ie: acpuncture &

Chinese medicine- there have been So many all ending in the same way - the

craving for sweets being too much & giving in to it... ) and also therapy

(from 'traditional psychotherapy' to a variety of spiritual healers & 2

different SNR healers). A year & a half ago I made the intention to get to

the bottom of the horrible cravings / thus eating habits & have tried More

things since that time. So, that is what "got" me into KY Teachers

Training! I kept thinking about the term Kundalini Yoga & since a teacher

wasn't convenient it seemed easier to just take the course. Next weekend I

finish up / graduate but I'm still as far away from my original intention as

can be. I've read the postings for "alcoholism" as I feel like I'm a

"sweet-a-holic" and am doing 11 min. of Sat Kriya and 11 of Ang Sang Wahe

Guru (for the navel pump -3rd chakra) in addition to doing Grace of God

11min. and Refining Your Sexuality & Spirituality Kriya. I've added &

deleted other meditations since I began KY in Sept. I've also attempted the

eating plans of the 2 SNR healers - with the same fate as all other diets in

my life... So, I now feel lost & hopeless. Certainly not motivated to try

yet another diet - but I feel lousy whether I eat "healthy" (& crave like

crazy) or eat all the sweets I want (& have no energy)... Any

recommendations (prayers & miracles!) would be most appreciated.

Wendy,

Try the millet diet, several people on the list have tried it. I have

shared it with friends and we all agree, it makes us feel better, more

energy and we lose weight. I can't seem to stay on it more than two

weeks at a time, the longest was four weeks, but over the last several

months my diet has evolved and is quite healthy now.

kundalini yogakyt23.html

I ordered the book also, it helped with recipes.

Hi Wendy,

Do you have RealPlayer on your computer? Then or cut

and paste it into the window of RealPlayer

( http://www.npr.org/ramfiles/totn/20020510.totn.02.ram - fast forward to the

14:30 mark). This a good listen regarding diet, obesity and

particularly the call in by a woman who also had tremendous cravings for sweet

things and how she licked it. To hear just her call fast forward to

the 24:26 minute mark. She refers to her success with the Zone diet which people

have erroneously referred to as the high protein diet.

The Millet Diet is said to be very helpful in overcoming sugar related

craving and high blood sugar. I am especially attuned to this subject

as diabetes runs in my family and I don't want to get it. Diabetes happens when

insulin doesn't do its job anymore and we end up getting high

blood sugar and it's high blood sugar that will cause the problem to begin (or

something like that)

Ayurveda has a lot to say about cravings and we can certainly integrate

this knowledge into our diet. We have six taste sensations (sweet,

sour, salty, pungent, bitter and astringent) and if we don't stimulate and

satiate all of these in one meal at least once a day we will be left

wanting and we will attempt to satisfy the need for satiation with something

sweet. We will reach for another order of fries or a pint of Chunky

Monkey (potatoes are a sweet food, dairy is a sweet food). Yogiji has said when

you feel a sugar craving comin' on, eat a jalapeno pepper. At

first I thought that was cruel and unusual punishment but the idea has a base in

this Ayurvedic approach to diet.Using the sense of taste, the

practitioner is able to prescribe a diet consisting of the opposite qualities of

the disease or imbalance. I may not literally eat a jalapeno but

I know what he is saying. Additionally, we can sharpen our sense of taste to the

point that a slice of toast can be quite satisfying to the need

for sweet. You just need to eat slowly and calmly enough to appreciate the

sugars that are in the starches that are freed by the saliva and the

chewing. All other taste sensations are awakened by eating in a calm way.

Peace,

Dharam

"Ayurveda teaches us that we are all unique individuals. We were conceived with

a unique constitution or fundamental balance of energies that

define who

we are on the physical level. It defines what we are naturally attracted to

and what causes us to move out of balance and experience disease.

Depending

on our constitution, we thrive in a particular environment. We take our

environment in through the senses, which are the portals to our body and

consciousness. The energies we take in either blend with us or disrupt our

harmony. Proper diet (taste), aromas (smell), sounds (hearing),

colors (vision),

and touch are essential to maintaining internal equilibrium. When harmonious

impressions are taken in, the body is healthy and the mind

peaceful. When

disharmonious impressions are taken in, the body and mind suffer. Hence,

Ayurveda focuses on helping individuals understand themselves as unique

beings. With that understanding, a person can become empowered to make choices

that are in harmony with who they are. Ayurveda teaches us that

nothing is right for everyone but everything is right for someone. Ayurveda is

the path of understanding what is right for you."

Sat Nam,

There are a number of homeopathic remedies with excessive sugar cravings as main

indicator. Are you getting enough protein? What is your body type

and your medical history. Some types need to yoga less vigorously than other

types or will aggravate blood sugar problems. Some type need to add

bitter or sour to their diet to eliminate sweet cravings. Some types cannot fast

or diet excessively. Have you looked into syndrome X? Food

allergies? A good herbal liver cleanse? If all these things have been eliminated

as factors then you are probably looking at the underlying

EMOTIONAL cause of your blood sugar swings/sugar addiction. Emotions play a very

big role in the whole sugar thing. In my experience most SNR

healers do not have the capacity to seek out and work with the underlying

emotinal/consciousness issues.

Hope this helps some.

Dear Wendy, I know what you're going through. Have been through it before

myself, - kicked the "habit" and felt like a million only to be snagged

back by my Mother's birthday cake for me. - I'm having a harder time this

time to get off the sugar than before. Magnesium is supposed to eleviate

the sugar cravings as is - "calc-sulph" a cell salt by Hylander. I'll give

these a try myself as soon as I get a chance to buy some. Keep in touch,

let me know if it helps.

Best of luck, Ruth
