numb feelings after short walking

Sat Nam group,

I have a question: in the past few years I used to do a lot of sports

(running almost daily 5 - 10 km, swimming up 30 min, cycling, etc.) but had

to limit / stop most of my activities since 1 year due to my new position.

In my profession as computer engineer I sit most of the day (regularly more

than 10 hours) in front of my computer... For sure not the best thing for my

spine.

Right now I am only doing my Sadhana (about 1 hour in the morning - just

started a 40 day Nabhi Kriya) and play once a week squash with friends. I

still consider myself as pretty fit / healthy with a moderate flexibility in

the spine. Nevertheless I started to experience in the last few month a

curious symptom: After walking for about 300 - 500 m my upper legs (backside

hips down to the knees) start prickling and getting more and more numb. It

also happened to me already 3 times, that - when trying to ignore this

feeling and continue walking - all of a sudden I lost all strength in my

knees and simply fell over. When sitting down for a minute or two, or

bending the upper body over (like tying the shoe laces) this feeling

disappears again. For sure this is annoying and also a little bit scary to

me. Having checked the internet for back problems and found out, that this

might come from a squeezed nerve channel in the lower back.

Does anybody of you have/had the same problem or has experience on this

issue? Any Kriya / set / exercise to recommend? Or what else could be the

reason for this numb sensation?

Any reply is highly appreceated,

best regards,

Ardash Singh

Sat Nam Jurgen,

The symptoms you describe, numbness, sounds like a pinched nerve. I've had

many, sciatic nerve pinches, slipped disks. The spinal set is

the best.

I do cat stretches every morning before sadhana, and stretch laying prone, my

arms

and feet as far as I can. Stretch the spine length-ways. I do spinal flexes

every morning.

I had a pinched nerve in my mid back last summer from twisting too hard on a

reverse triangle (hatha). It stayed with me for about 3-5

months, I couldn't sit rigid for very long without that aching pain. I

"unpinched" just from doing the routine

above. I think it was just a combination of the stretches and excercises, I

don't know when it corrected. Do alot of stretching, gently and

slowly. I also do alot

of hanging forward bend to stretch the spine.

The area you described sounds like the sciatic nerve, which I've pinced

several

times. Sometimes the pain is so bad you can't sit. Be careful, move slowly

"one vertebrae at a time" when bending. And I don't know if twists

are good for you right now.

Blessings

Brad
