Guest guest
Sat Nam Are there any diabetic yogis out there? I was diagnosed about three months ago and my blood sugar was dangerously high. Since then I have gotten it under control with diet, exercise, and medication. The medical community I've encountered isn't really interested in a yogic diet, I have been told eating a vegetarian diet with diabetes is very difficult. I panicked and started eating meat because I need a high protein diet. I have been told that soy products although they are high in protein also contain too many carbs for diabetics. After months of feeling really bad because of the diabetes and not knowing that I had it I started to feel strong again, so I'm pensive about not eating meat, but I also understand the karmic ramifications. Any information would be much appreciated. Guest guest
There is lots of highly concentrated proteins out there which you could try. Almond butter, for instance, and almond milk. Garbanzo bean cholay and lentil dhal. Even non fertilized eggs are better than meat, as far as yogis go. Are you a type O blood person? You have difficulty with protein enzymes and sulphur metabolism and should take a supplement if that is the case. Everything else they say about a vegetarian diet is ignorant hyperbole. You might also need something called alpha lipoic acid. The Wildrose Herbal Line of products has something called Syndrome X which is excellent and includes that and some other useful things in it. So you see, there are many things you can do but you have to research it outside of traditional medicine and possibly see a good practitioner: naturopath, homeopath, herbalist etc. As far as yoga goes two things are essential: yoga sets for pancreas, spleen, stomach done at the pace that is right for your body type; reducing and resolving emotional stress. Hope some of these ideas are of help. Keep up and you'll be kept up. Seva Simran Singh. Sheepdog Beyer wrote: > Sat Nam > > Are there any diabetic yogis out there? Guest guest
Interestingly enough...probably the most famous of our Yogi's is Yogi Bhajan who is diabetic. Although I don't know if he is insulin dependant or not, I seem to think he is not. I have to agree with the first response you got. Try to get some advice from a naturopath...you may be able to control and, eventually, erase the dis-ease from your system. I'm curious to know how you came about finding that you had it...how were you feeling? Write me offlist so we don't take the list away from the topic it was meant for.
