Guest guest
Sat Nam I wanted to share my progress with the group. I had never tried to meditate before starting KY. I've been doing KY for almost 3 months now, and have been trying different meditations every couple of days. At first it was so overwhelming. It seemed every several days I would read on this site or in some of the books I bought how good this meditation was or that one. I wanted to try all of them (still do). But I've settled on two. I've been doing them for 7 days now: Har Har Har Har Gobinday and Sa Ta Na Ma Ra Ma Da Sa. I bought some CDs by Gurunam and meditate to them. Those two chants are 11 minutes each. So I do them back to back for a total of 22 minutes. This weekend (after about 5 days)I began to get different sensations with each one. It was very interesting. A few minutes into Har Har Har Har Gobinday, I could feel the sound of the words and music vibrating within my body. Each sound would begin to vibrate at slightly different places within my torso and would resonate out to the rest of my body. Many people on this site have been meditating much longer than I have so this is probably old news to them. But it was a first for me. And I noticed that while the music would vibrate within me, the words were actually what vibrated the strongest and was what I enjoyed the most. The sensations with Sa Ta Na Ma Ra Ma Da Sa were different however. I didn't feel the vibrations. Instead, I began to get very warm and started to sweat slightly, not a lot. And then my entire body began to tingle all over. ANd the tingling sensations continued for the entire meditation. I wanted to continue each of them longer than the 11 minutes. I was curious how much disruption would be incurred if, at the end of the chant, I would get up and re-set the CD to play it again before moving on to the next one? If you take a minute break to replay the CD, will that still have the same effect of a straight 22 minutes of meditation? I've read some of Ellen's posts regarding getting up for breaks during meditation, so I'm probably being WAY too literal in my interpretation of meditation (a typical character flaw for me). But I wanted to ask before I began doing it. Christa
Guest guest
Sat Nam Christa, "I've read some of Ellen's posts regarding getting up for breaks during meditation, so I'm probably being WAY too literal in my interpretation of meditation (a typical character flaw for me). But I wanted to ask before I began doing it." Some meditations require the music to chant to, I guess the ones you are doing fall into that category, otherwise the purpose of meditation is to sill your self, still your mind, and reap the benefits. Meditation is awesome and you get out of it what you put in. I see nothing wrong with reaching over to rewind or what ever. But getting up or stopping to go do something as a routine, breaks the effect, as it builds over time, whether its 31 minutes or 2.5 hours. Keep up! Guest guest
Dear Chirstina, That is great progress. Don't reset the recorder. GEt a tape and make a version that lasts the time that you want to do it. 22 or 31 minutes. Once you are into it, you don't want to break it. The energy builds and it is so great to feel the increased connection. SAt Nam, Gururattan Kaur
Guest guest
This has apparently been a wonderful weekend for us beginners. I came to work today fully intending on writing an update on my progress but ended up reading all these! I was so excited when I first felt a strong navel pulse with my hand, I couldn't imagine that now I can feel it without touching the area. I also felt an intense heat once, it was above my right shoulder blade and went straight through to my collarbone; at the time I was trying to sort out a personal situation that required I speak my mind to a difficult person. The heat was so strong I tried shifting my position, assuming the sunlight was coming through the window onto my back -but the sun hadn't risen yet! The heat was in the area to the right of my throat chakra. It gave me confidence and I focused my meditation on that area -after a few days the heat was centered, then I had my talk. I felt confident and compassionate and it went very well! Now, I listen very carefully to my emotions and sensations but for the last few months I have been feeling less of the strong mood swings and more energy moving like water inside me. This weekend I felt something new that really took me by surprise. I was doing the life nerve stretch from the spinal set and for the first time, I felt I was in my "whole" body. It's difficult to explain but in retrospect I think I always felt like a head attached to a body -my mind telling my hands to reach for my toes ;-) but this time my arms/legs/back/head were all in union working inside together stretching. It was as though I filled my whole body suit with me. I am not sure I am putting this correctly, I fear that everyone is always "in their bodies". But, I have always felt as though my mind was me and I was wearing a skin suit with limbs attached... This is the first time I felt whole. It also made me feel more responsible for my body... I really love this awakening kundalini creates inside us, it's not like there is an end-goal but a constant unfolding. -cris Walk in Beauty
Guest guest
Christine- That's great. I can feel my navel pulse also, but for some reason I haven't been able to center it yet. It always ends up located just above and about an inch to the left of my navel. But that's one more area I have to look forward to progressing in. I haven't felt the heat centered in one area yet. Mine tends to start at the legs and then go all over the place. It would appear like many of us have made some pretty good progress recently though. Which is encouraging! As for being 'one with the body' I have had that experience in the past. I studied karate for about one year when I was in my teens. In the beginning, I very much felt clumsy and disconnected. (In fact, even in the end, there were still two kicks that I just never felt comfortable doing) I would repeatedly ask what I was doing wrong, and they always said nothing. But it wasn't until I practiced more and more, that I began to feel 'connected' with the movements. I could feel like I was actually flowing through the kata's. And not like I was piecing together commands for my body to do. With me, it was just continual practice that finally made my body move in unison. I'm glad to hear that has finally happend with you. Guest guest
Sat Nam! I am a beginner in KY and done the sa ta na ma meditation about 4 occasions on consecutive days, 11 minutes each. I too have had that sensation of heat, but in time it feels different: I feel the heat surrounding me like the black outline of a cartoon character and I feel less heat around the joins (especially the wrists). Also the tip of my nose feels cold. Why is that? What does it mean to "feel the L in the head"? Good wishes, Mihai
Guest guest
Sat Nam Milhail, "What does it mean to "feel the L in the head"?" The way I do it is on Sa, I visualize the "S" coming down through my crown and the "a" going out through my 6 th chakra, and repeat on Ta and Na and Ma. If you keep the concentration you'll feel energy build in that area. Blessings Brad
Guest guest
Sat Nam Brad, I am still getting up every hour when doing the 2.5 hour Sodarshan Kriya. Will I get so I don't have to go to the bathroom, or am I supposed to resist the urge? I have the urge because I am trying to get out of going deeper? Maya. Sodashan Kriya seems to stimulate the large intenstines and I generally have a bowel movement as well. I wish I would start in the morning empty. May be I am eating too much for dinner. Dinner is my big meal of the day because I am working all day. I am really hungry. In generally, Kundalini yoga stimulates several bowel movements during the day. Before I did Kundalini yoga, (I did other yogas) I was constipated. Gian
