Guest guest
Christa, I think a big problem is that you are using noxema to wash your face...it's full of chemicals and actually really harsh on the pH of your skin (regardless of what the commercials say!) Same goes with lubriderm...it has ingredients that are petrochemical derived and will eventually cause more harm than good. One of the best things I have found for dryness, sensitivity, etc, is to use whole milk powder and a bit of either water or a floral water (rose is good for dry skin) and make a thick paste with it...then use that to wash your skin. You can also just use cream (yes, actual cream that you would use in coffee, etc.) Once you have rinsed clean and while your face is slighty damp, use a few drops of almond oil, sesame oil or apricot kernal oil and pat gently into the skin. I guarantee you that you will notice a difference in your skin within a week, maybe even sooner, while you are using natural ingredients without chemicals. Personally, I don't think it has anything to do with your 6th chakra. I don't mean to sound cynical but, sometimes, we tend to look for things in our spiritual growth or learning to explain things that are happening to us when, in fact, the most probable cause is the most obvious...and that's the chemicals in most products used on our bodies every single day. If you want to check out a great book on ayurveda, including a huge section on skin care, look for "absolute beauty" by Pratima Raichur namaste, kelly ps...if the problem is eczema, try to find borage oil and mix a bit in with your facial oil. You can also take evening primrose supplements which will help with dryness. _______________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx
Guest guest
Ayurveda calls your illness based in Vata and Pitta. Probably more Vata than Pitta, but there are both elements. You have excess of Vata / Pitta and at the same time a lack of Kapha. There are other things about you that I would like to know like your height, weight, gait, mental attitude, other physical characteristics to be for sure. Never mind where the dryness is. Educate yourself on what foods are Vata and Pitta and avoid them. Get cooling oils in and on you like coconut and olive. Almond oil is heating and spring is already a high Pitta time so avoid it. Try to find oil that has aloe vera in it or just apply the gel to your skin. Soothing and cooling food, soothing and cooling yoga........letting your nerves and glandular system take a rest are key. The are a number of good articles at http://www.vedanet.com/ that will help you wrap your mind around this. Ayurveda and yoga are flip sides of the same coin. Guest guest
Dharam and Kelly- Thanks for the response. I do have a confession to make though (and most people on the list will probably cringe when they read this) but I'm not a 'naturalist' so to speak. Meaning, I do all of my shopping at the grocery store down the road. I've never been to a health food store and I'm only vaguely familiar with some of the things you mentioned (others I'm completely clueless about). I was somewhat surprised because I've been using the same stuff for over 10 years and never had a problem until recently. I have no idea what Vata, Pitta or Kapha are (but I'll look them up on the link you provided). As for additional info about me: height - 5'6" weight - 116 lbs gait (I'm guessing you mean body build?) - I'm petite (by clothing standards anyways) mental attitude - usually see the glass half full; too empathetic (tend to internalize what others are feeling/going through); outspoken; extremely determined if it's something I believe in; love to laugh and joke around (alot); not sure what else to say here. other physical characteristics - Long and lanky arms. Fair skin (my face burns easily but the rest of my body usually tans). Brown hair and green eyes.I get cold VERY easily, especially my hands and feet. I live in Florida and my typical attire is a t-shirt, sweatpants and socks. I only wear shorts if I'm doing a lot of work otherwise I get too cold. I'm not sure if this is too much detail or not enough. I appreciate your help! Christa
Guest guest
Kelly, what is your opinion about Eucerin which is dermatologist recommended. I have been using that, I find the skin mor e wrinklish .. Also , can we use olive oil for skin everyday? Thanks Akkama - Official partner of 2002 FIFA World Cup http://fifaworldcup. Guest guest
Vata/Pitta combination dosha. that's my guess with the info given. Look for ways to balance these two doshas (provided on site, I would think) and through that book suggestion I gave you. I think it will help a lot. good luck, Kelly > _______________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com
Guest guest
I am certainly no expert...but I find it rather odd the products that are "dermatologist recommended" and usually full of harsh chemicals, preservatives, and acids that DO cause your skin to age more rapidly, not to mention what it does to the rest of your body. Your skin breathes, it eats and absorbs EVERYTHING that you put on it. If you think about it that way, would you eat a petrochemical product like Vaseline? Or paraffin..or mineral oil? How about something like sodium lauryl sulfate, which is actually on the FDA list of suspected carcinogens? But..it's in nearly every shampoo or cleanser that creates lather! How about Polysorbate 80...we have all heard of it. It's actually an emulsifier and it's also carcinogenic. If you take a look at the labels on your skincare products, or shampoo...see how many things you can actually recognize. Chances are that not much will be derived from nature..and you certainly wouldn't eat any of it. So my opinion about Dermatologist's and their recommendations...I don't buy it. I know that if we all had healthy skin, then they wouldn't have a job. I also know that they are heavily backed financially when they endorse a product so it's really a money game. I don't mean to offend anyone. This is just what I see. Any cold-pressed oil can be used on the skin but it's important to determine your skin type because not all oils have the same properties. Some oils actually have "heating" properties, such as sesame, good for dry skin, while others, such as almond, are cooling and better for skin that tends to be sensitive or prone to redness. Olive is quite moisturizing so, if your skin is a little dryer, give it a try. Use on DAMP skin, and only use a few drops at a time..pat into skin and just let the skin absorb it. Olive oil is also great to remove makeup and mascara it will also encourage your brows and lashes to become thicker and darker. Do not use rancid oil because that is just as bad as chemicals. If you want more info...about skin care, etc..email me off list and I would be happy to help you with anything I can. Guest guest
Since everyone is talking about dry skin I thought I would weigh in on this. >From a traditional yogic/food perspective, Lecithin helps to balance the oils in the body. However, dry itchy skin can also be a nervous condition. Thius is because of the link between the skin and nerve tissue development during fetal development. So........deep seated nervous tension needs to be explored with deep meditation to find its source, then perhaps some healing is required. And, as Kelly has pointed out, ones internal ecology is always an issue. Often when people first become vegetarian, for instance, their skin breaks out and becomes less than pleasant looking and it freaks them out. That's just showing how much internal toxicity is being carried and not released through the body's normal garbage cans. Guest guest
Hi Christa, Ayurveda does not give prescriptions (even if I were qualified), on telephone or online, without meeting the patients, since it is very individualized but for the sake of conversation I'll say a couple of things. Your petite build, your long and lanky arms and your tendency to getting cold are all Vatta features... This isn't the totality of you, by the way, but where you seem to most need to make sure you don't go out of balance. Dry skin is a common symptom of Vatta imbalance. Vatta is movement, quick, airy, prone to dryness. Read up on this through the two links that have been given by myself and one other. In a short period of time (a couple of weeks even) you will start getting positive results from dietary changes alone. The changes will come from the inside which is always best. http://www.mapi.com/ will help you grasp the basics and even offer a product, but the writings at http://www.vedanet.com/ will feed your mind and senses and further empower you to really see your situation on a "deeper than skin" level. There is an article (The Ayurvedic Effects of Asana Practice) that will help you understand how different postures, breaths, eye positions will help you regulate your Kapha, Pitta and Vata. You can even take an online course through here at a very reasonable rate. Peace, Dharam spatialagent1 wrote: > Dharam and Kelly- > Thanks for the response.
