Like the renowned Kalighat in Calcutta. Give you other info later..... (Btw: the smashana and the River Ganges are the Great Mother Herself....) Meantime here's some info about Varanasi: As you well know, its Holy City, one of the oldest living cities in the world; city of Shiva on the bank of sacred Ganges River; considered an auspicious place to die (gives moksha); many famous Ghats or temples; long string of ghats on western bank mostly for bathing but some for burning (cremating bodies) - Aghoris and sadhus galore. There are around 100 Ghats in Varanasi - some examples: Dasaswamedh Ghat, Assi Ghat, Tulsi Ghat, Bachraj Ghat, Shivala Ghat, Dandi Ghat (of ascetics known as Dandi Panths), Hanuman Ghat, Harishchandra or Smashan Ghat, etc. Vishwanath Temple or Golden Temple is most sacred in Varanasi; dedicated to Vishveswara, Shiva Lord of the Universe. Durga Temple or Monkey Temple (many monkeys there), about 2km south of the city, small temple built by Bengali maharani in 18th century, stained in red ochre; its in North Indian Nagara style with multi-tiered sikhara (spire) - some sacrifices of goats. All that aside, if you really go to Varanasi, ask the locals and they will tell you more. In any case, Maa is everywhere, anywhere and also inside us, in the heart.
