Namaste Nurcarnation.Verse 4anejad ekam manaso javiyo nainad deva apnuvan purvam

arsat tad dhavatonyan atyeti tisthat tasmin apo matarisva

dadhati.anejad(motionless-immutable) ekam(one) manaso(than mind) javiyo(faster

than) nainad deva(the senses) apnuvan(could not reach) purvam arsat(went before

mind) tad (it)dhavato(running –changeable) nyan(other objects) atyeti(outstrips)

tisthat(being steady) tasmin(it being present) apo(all the activity)

matarisva(the cosmic energy) dadhati(sustains).

The immutable one is faster than mind even the senses could not reach it It our

strips all that runs being as it is steady always .By its presence alone all

activity of living being is sustained .

 

 

The verse starts to talk about the nature of the atman ;

 

1) The immutable one is faster than mind even the senses could not reach

it

 

The immutable one is the Atman because it is beginningless and endless it is

referred to as immutable. The meaning faster than mind reflect the

pervasiveness of the atman .The fastest thing that man knows is the mind but if

all pervasive atman is everywhere than no matter how fast the mind is, it is

always at second place because by nature atman is all pervasive thus filling

everywhere. The air is not only in the balloon but outside as well……………………

 

2) It our strips all that runs being as it is steady always

 

Usually logical perception seems to suggest in order for something to be at one

place it has to leave the other place . In order for Ali to go to London he

has to leave New York but because of the nature of the Atman which is all

pervasive it need not leave neither it has to arrive. This means it has always

been there –steady. In such a circumstances we would realize it is not only a

means to an end but the means and ends as well. When we say it outstrips all

that runs with it we mean to say nothing could go beyond this .

 

 

3) By its presence alone all activity of living being is sustained .

 

Atman ,the conscious principle behind life does not do the activity to sustain

any living being but its mere presence the cosmic energy translates itself into

all activities of life .
