Hello,

>From what I have found out about the Kali Ma or MA Kali, is that she

lures men with thier desires and dreams and then leads them to thier

horrible demise.

The Goddess of Death and Destroryer of Men?

The reason I ask is because such followers as maybe yourselves have

embraced themselves around me and the name of this diety is interwoven

through out thier socail lives together.

Thank you,

& Sincerely,

Ma Kali is an icon which represents all the activity

of the universe. She is Female as Shakti is represented

as being female. However, Her being the "The Goddess of

Death and Destroyer of Men" is just something some feminist

made up to support her own views of men.

While Kali does kill a lot of male demons in Her appearance

in the Devi Mahatmyam, those demons represent our more base,

animal natures, and not just the male sex.

Dear Garry --

It sounds like you've been reading Fantasy Gaming

books for your definitions of Kali.

Kali is a well-established Hindu Goddess, beloved by

millions of Hindus. Her image has also appealed to

other folks, some of whom wreak changes and

re-interpret it. Kali is not man-hating, or EEEvil,

or Sado-Masochistic. Her realm is TIME, and time

brings Change, and sometimes change is scary. But

Kali is always motivated by love. And where there is

fear, there is power, once you face that fear.

I recommend that you read the poems of Bengali Kali

devotee Ramprasad Sen. They were written in the 18th

Century, and Hindu Bengalis are still setting them to

music and singing them. As a musician, you may be

tempted to sing them, yourself!

Through my personal experience have seen more Men being Ma Kali devotees

than women who I have seen more leaned towards male forms of God. This

is just my personal thought I may be wrong. I myself am a shakti devotee

of Durga/Kali/ Laxmi/ Saraswati and any form of female goddess more than

male gods. In my family many women are shiv devotees whereas many men

are durga devotees. Don't really know why such a way but there could be

some reasons which we don't know.

Kind regards

Jay

I am glad to hear that you have a different more peacefull path than

that of my original question. I still have some more

statements/rebuttals to previous post, and questions for you.

So you tell me that Ma Kali is an icon which represents all the

activity of the universe. That her being the "The Goddess of Death

and Destroyer of Men" is just something some feminist

made up to support her own views of men. Yet, her original origin of

creation was about her being the "Dark Goddess of Death and Rebirth"?

She was, originally, a warrior goddess, worshiped with blood

sacrifice and offerings of flesh and liquor.

Yes I understand some of you now study, worship, or follow teachings

from something, but wouldnt you agree that the origins are a little

hazy?

Its great that you follow a lighter side of this goddess, but it is

almost as if, her name, and what she was to be originally is now

changing to make her seem a lighter shade?

P.S. My favorite answer was "Ma Kali is an icon which represents

all the activity of the universe" its a great thing all activity of

the universe, as a whole. The fact that this example is focused in an

icon such as Kali Ma, is your choosing, and hoipefully is a good

channel for you and others like you.

P.S.S. To the one who stated, that I read my description from some

form of role playing fantasy book or something to that measure, my

answer simply put to you is, "no", I study and search for answers to

anything that I have questions too. You were probably just laughing

at my statement and I understand, but, no one should ever feel the

need to make light of others trying to learn, it will never help them

in the return of things.

I LIKE THIS QUOTE:

"Then alone can death cease

when I am one with life,

then alone can misery cease

when I am one with happiness itself,

then alone can all errors cease

when I am one with knowledge itself"

Sincerely,

G. Geer

The "warrior" aspect of Kali Ma does not necessarily

relate to the military-industrial complex. Kali

almost exclusively battles demons. She is a goddess

of protection. She destroys our bad intentions, she

eradicates error. If you have qualities you don't

want, you can ask her to take them away. Mother,

please remove my ignorance, my selfishness, my hatred.

In these days of "Lite Beer," preserve us from "Lite

Kali"!

There is no escaping that Kali is DARK. She can be

frightening. She should be treated with respect. She

is like a fire that burns away every part of you that

is dross, taking away everything that is not of the

divine.

Meg Christian wrote these lyrics:

What do you say to the radiant one

Who melts your fear and pain?

And then She lets you love Her

Any foolish way you can.

She heals your heart, then steals your heart,

And fills it till it bursts

And in the place it used to be,

You'll find the Universe.

It's not about being peaceful for myself. It's about

understanding at all times that I am always subject to

the will of Kali. An earthquake (or tsunami if I lived

near the ocean) could swallow me whole at any moment.

I could be struck down by a heart attack. Carjackers

could blow my head off while stealing my truck. I as

an individual am always helpless in the arms of Ma Kali,

and She's crazy, so you never know what She's going to

do next.

She appeared in the literature as a demon-killing warrior

Goddess. The Gods fucked up and gave the demons a boon,

that they could not be defeated by men in battle. So the

demons took over heaven and the Gods were bummed. They

combined all their powers at a single point and out popped

Durga. She proceeded to vanquish the demons and restore

heaven to the folks it belonged to. When Durga got

really, really pissed off, Kali sprang from Her brow and

went psychocrazy on the demons.

She still is worshipped with animal sacrifice and booze,

etc. She's a party Girl and likes to get down. She likes

marijuana as well.

> Yes I understand some of you now study, worship, or follow teachings

Not at all. It's all in the Devi Mahatmyam and the Devi

Bhagavatam. She was probably one of the dravidian Goddesses

who got assimilated into the Aryan pantheon.

> Its great that you follow a lighter side of this goddess, but it is

I do not worship a lighter side of anything. Think of a massive

black hole, thousands of light-years in breadth, swallowing stars

and planets whole. That is Ma Kali.

Kali is the Mahashakti. The Mahashakti is the entirety of the

manifest universe and everything happening within it. It's not

something I chose for Kali, it's Her traditional role within the

purview of traditional shaktism.

Nothing new below.

Everyone thank you!

Answers that I have liked and heard have had exellent keys to an

understanding of a path I have been seeking to fully know. For that

thank you!

Answers I will not be adopting are things such as flesh, liqour and

marijuana as offerings! A party girl! A crazy psycho demon killer! Its

all quite a bit savage for me, and I seem to be headed a different

path.

I am content just being, and I thank you for the understanding!

In my opinion, everyone "one" being needs to follow thier own path to

enlightment, otherwise they stay followers, and only hope that the

path thier leader has chosen for them, is right.

Thank you again for all the answers, and statements.

SINCERELY
