Guest guest
Jody is talking about celebrations at the Kali Mandir in Laguna Beach, California. All Hindu festival dates are based on a lunar calendar, so the exact date changes from year to year, depending on the phase of the Moon. The two days of the week that are especially appropriate for invoking Kali Ma are Tuesdays and Saturdays. Every month, the Amavasya day (eve of the New Moon) is also especially sacred to Kali. She is best invoked when the Moon is waning. Local areas of India have local holidays sacred to Kali. In West Bengal, a big festival is held in the Autumn -- Kali Puja, the night before the New Moon in October or November (it's the day before Deepavali, the Hindu feast of lights, sacred to Lakshmi). Some Hindus celebrate the first three days of Navaratri (an autumn harvest festival) as devoted to Kali Ma. If you write to the Hindu Temple Society of North America, in Flushing New York, they publish a beautiful calendar every year that lists all the lunar-derived holidays for that year. -- Len/ Kalipadma --- jodyrrr <jodyrrr wrote: > > Kali_Ma, "inalispirit" > <inalispirit> wrote: > > > > > > hi, > > > > Does anyone know where I can find dates to Kali's > Festival days or > > know of any? > > > > Banshee > > http://www.kalimandir.org/ > > They observe daily puja, monthly amavasya puja, and > an annual > summer puja which attracts over 600 people and is > officiated > by the head priest of the Dakshineswar Kali Temple > in Calcutta. > > > > Mail - Find what you need with new enhanced search. http://info.mail./mail_250
