A mantra is a religious hymn or poem typically from the Sanskrit language. Their

use varies according to the school and philosophy associated with the mantra.

They are primarily used as spiritual conduits, words and vibrations that

instill one-pointed concentration in the devotee. Other purposes have included

religious ceremonies to accumulate wealth, avoid danger, or eliminate enemies.

Mantras originated in India with Vedic Hinduism and were later adopted by

Buddhists and Jains, now popular in various modern forms of spiritual practice

which are loosely based on practices of these Eastern religions.

The word Mantra is a word consisting of the root man- "to think" and the suffix

-tra denoting a tool or instrument, hence a literal translation would be

"instrument of thought". Mantras are interpreted to be effective as sound

vibrations, to the effect that great emphasis is put on correct pronunciation

(resulting in an early development of a science of phonetics in India). They

are intended to deliver the mind from material inclinations.

Om is the most renowned bija mantra. The Bhutadamara describes it as the face of

Kala. Revealed by Mahakala, it is the form of creation, maintenance and

withdrawal.

Kreem or Krim is the bija mantra for all forms of mother goddess.

OM KREEM KALIKAYE NAMAH is the best of all. 108 times on saturdays and 21 times

on other days is good enough, though you can recite 108 times all days too.

Let blessings of Maa be on you.
