Anyone with a simple knowledge of shaktism is aware of the fact that Kali represents not any single quality of the universe, but all of them, and all of their activity, and all of the time which provides the envelope for their existences and activities. While it's common to attempt to overlay one culture's concepts over another's, the fact is that Kali is all inclusive of all universal existence and phenomena and cannot be pinned down to any one object or phenomena, physical or cultural. She is everything, happening all the time, ceaselessly. --jody.

But when sincere love is applied to that representation, real relationship with the never-to-be-represented manifests. Us shaktas choose Kali, and we choose to see Her as the source of everything. That doesn't refute Krishna for Vaishnavites or Shiva for Shaivates, it just reflects a particular choice with regard to representation. --jody.
