Namaste Alexandreji,

The scriptural reference to navarna mantra contained in Chandi Path

(Devi Mahtmayam) ;

Verse 16, Chapter7(Chandi Path pg 226)

Ksanena tad balam sarvam asuranam nipatitam

Drstva cando-bhidudrava tam kalimati bhisanam

In this way the entire mighty army of thoughts was killed in a

moment. Seeing this, Passion, attacked that excessively fearful

Remover of Darkness.

Verse 17, Chapter7(Chandi Path pg 227)

Saravarsair maha bhimair

Bhimaksam tam mahasurah

Chadayamassa cakraisca

Also the great thought , Anger , rained his extremely terrible

arrows and hurled a thousand discuses against the the fearful

–eyed

Goddess

Verse 18, Chapter7(Chandi Path pg 227)

Babhuryatharka bimbani subahuni ghanodaram

Those discuses entering her mouth shone as halo of light of the sun

absorbed in many clouds

Verse 19, Chapter7(Chandi Path pg 227)

Tato jahasatirusa bhimam bhairava nadini

Kali karala vaktrantar durdarsa dasanojjvala

Then with a fearful roar ,the Remover of Darkness laughed furiously.

Her teeth radiantly gleaming in Her fierce mouth

Verse 20, Chapter7(Chandi Path pg 227)

Utthaya ca mahasimham devi canda madhavata

Grhitva casya kesesu sirastena sinacchinat

Then the Goddess ,mounting upon lion ,seized Passion by the hair, and

and with a broad sword , She cut off his head.

Verse 21, Chapter 7(Chandi Path pg 227)

Atha mundo-bhyadhavattam

Drstva candam nipatitam

Tamapyapatayad bhumau sa khadgabhihatam rusa

Seeing the death of Passion , Anger attacked the Goddess. Then in

terrible anger , stabbing him with Her Sword , She laid him to rest

on the ground

Verse 22, Chapter 7(Chandi Path pg 228)

Hatasesam tatah sainyam drstva candam nipatitam

Mundam ca surnahaviryam diso bheje bhayaturam

The remaining army, seeing the death of the terrible valiant Passion

and Anger , were overcome with fear and ran away

Verse 23, Chapter 7 (Chandi Path pg 228)

Siras Candasya kali ca grhitva mundameva ca

Praha pracandattahasa misramabhyetya candikam

*Thereafter the Remover of Darkness took the heads of Passion and

Anger in Her hands and brought them to She Who tears Apart Thought,

and spoke to Her with a great laugh

war

The Rsi said :

Uvaca kalim kalyani laitam candika vacah

Seeing the heads of the two great thoughts , Passion and Anger,

brought there ,the Goddesss of Welfare , She Who Tears Apart

Thought,in sweet words said to the Remover of Darkness ;

Verse 28 , Chapter 7 (Chandi Path pg 229)

Camundeti tato loke khyata devi bhavisyasi

Since you have brought me the heads of Passion and Anger , hence

forth you will be known in all the worlds as the Slayer of passion

and Anger .

Om

b)Meaning of the Navarna mantra

Om The Infinite Beyond Conception

Aim Creation , Rajo Guna , Energy of Desire , Mahasarasvathi

Hrim Preservation, Sattva Guna , Energy of Action, Mahalakshmi

Klim Destruction, Tamo Guna , Energy of Wisdopm , Mahakali

Camunda The Slayer of Passion and Anger , Moves in the Head

Yai The Grantor of Boons

Vic In The Body of Knowledge ; in Perception

Ce Of Consciousness

This can be understood from Verse 3-5 of Siddha Kunjika Stotram (

The Song That gives the Key to Perfection pg 723 of Swami

Satyananada's Chandi Path)

Verse 3 ,Siddha Kunjika Stotram

Jagratam hi maha devi japam siddhim kurusva me

Aimkari srsti rupayai hrimkari prati palika

Arise to wakefulness, Oh Great Goddess ! Grant me the perfection of

meditation. The sound AIM is the sound of creation. The syllable HRIM

is the entire existence preserved

Verse 4 ,Siddha Kunjika Stotram

Klimkari kama rupinyai bija rupe namo-stute

Camunda canda ghathi ca yai kari varadayini

The syllable KLIM is the intrinsic form of all desire . We bow to

you,the nultimate objective ,in the form of Seed Mantras. As

CHAMUNDA the Slayer of Passion and Anger ,you slay Passion and as

syllable YAI ,you are Grantor of Boons

Verse 5 ,Siddha Kunjika Stotram

Vicce cabhayada nityam namaste mantra rupini

VICCE gives eternal freedom from fear.We bow to you in the form of

mantras.

We can discuss the method of worship (navarna viddhi)if you wish and

the proper guru parampara lineage that follow this tradition of

worship is Swami Satyananda Sarawathy Maharaj of Devi Mandir .The

picture of the event is available in kalima2 group which also follows

this tradition of worship on Ma Kali (the whole discussion on Kali

Puja and Sri Kali Sahasranam (thousand names of Ma Kali)is also done

there)

I love to correspond to the idea that panchakshara mantra and navarna

mantra need not proper initiation procedure but I would not be able

to do so because these mantras just like any mantras are pregnant

with deeper meanings and inner revelation which is more easier from

aproper guru from the proper lineage thus initiation would be a

seriuos consideration for a serious sadhaka ......

Jai Maa!!
