lol good one!!

See!! Here I was being a good girl and behaving myself and just

reading the posts and then Nora goes and writes a post like this! Now

how can I not put in my 2 cents worth?!

Actually, I'll paste below what I had posted here some time ago...

Its post number 30332

However, I would also second what DB is saying about how it is the

protesters who by giving such titles to the paintings are delibrately

drawing viewers attention and sentiments along those lines. Hussain

has his agenda and the protestors their own.

I agreed but I'll say what I think is ridiculus. IRRESPECTIVE of

whether these paintings are obscene or not, or whether they hurt

anyones religious sentiments or not. I am not talking about that here.

What has this hoo haa about these paintings done/acheived?

- Given Hussein LOTS of free publicity.

- Hiked the price of his painting up considerably.

- Shown other painters the obvious, advantages of creatings "art"

along these lines.

A PETITION is going stop all the above?! It is going FUEL it even

more. When are we Indians ever going to learn? How many wealthy,

influencial Hindus out there both in India and the West? A significant

many.

What would the British have done if it was a Christian issue? An

influencial Christian Brit would have for example, had a quiet ,

civilised word in the ear of owners of galleries regarding an interest

in sponsership and philanthropic contributions to said gallery and

made clear that they are Hindus (and just in case, these people don't

know anything about Hinduism, would have mentioned the overall

sentiment regarding public depiction of nudity. In TODAY'S time. [just

in case someone takes this off on a tangent of Khajurao etc!] Enough said.

The primary reason why Muslims get away with mass protest and Hoo Haa

is that some lunatic somewhere may also follow up with violance.

Therefore its a deterrant.

Christians have to put up with this kind of thing too from "artistic

individuals". Do you ever hear about it? Its almost non existant

because of the WAY it is delt with. Lessons were learnt from that

movie "Last Temptation of Christ" years ago. You don't do the

advertising for these people and its not just free, its costing you!

An individual or small group pushes your buttons, you don't SHOW that

you've gone up in flames and invite further prods!!

kind regards

I don´t think it is such a funny idea that devi is wearing armour

plates actually it is part of the usual tantric Sadhana to realise

her protecting function in this way.

An example of such an armour : http://www.shivashakti.com/kavacha.htm

Namaste Mahahradanatha ji

You misunderstand me. I don't think its funny. I think its great and

my laugh was in delight to Nora's answer. The Devi Kavacham to be

recited before the DM is one that I love listening to. Must adimit I

haven't heard many....only the Lakshmi Kavacham.

Dear her asha,

I was not seriously complaining about the fun only in a playful mood.

But i think it is a very interesting Question what the clothes and

ornaments of the goddesses represent, and also why clothes are

missing sometimes and she is Digambari Devi "clad in space" only.

Historically one can find some varieties of woman clothing in hindu

Societies, from loincloth to sari to blouse and bra and toplessness

has not always been a cause of shame.

There have been changes in hindu culture in the last 30-50 years not

to speak of the last 100 years caused by outside influences. For

woman wearing only some loincloth was not uncommon in Sri lanka,

Nepal, Bali or parts of India, not always only in rural areas, this

persisted in some countries or areas until the mid 80ies and 90ies of

the last century.
