Guest guest
A recent report in the medical journal, Cancer Research, shows that colon cancer rates in rats fed tumeric were reduced significantly in comparison to a control group not fed tumeric. Tumeric is cheap and readily obtainable as a principal ingredient in curry powders and sauces. While we can not automatically infer that the same effect will be enjoyed by humans who eat tumeric, there is circumstantial evidence to suggest that the hypothesis of an analogous protective effect in humans is plausible. It is well-known that tumeric has anti-inflamatory properties, and is in fact used in some countries e.g. India for the same reasons we use aspirin. In the West, aspirin use is correlatable to reduced colon cancer risk. It is hypothesized that the _anti-inflammatory_ properties of tumeric--like those of aspirin--may be the reason for the reduced cancer rates in rats fed tumeric in the study published in the journal Cancer Research. An obliquely related consideration: a recent hypothesis now being considered by some cancer researchers is the view that lifelong use of anti-inflammatory substances, natural and/or pharmaceutical, may prevent onset of _many_ cancers and other pathological conditions. Chronic inflamation is currently being explored as a precursor to all manner of disease. All best wishes/SB sbernst Disclaimer: Am not posing as a medical authority, just dishing up stuff I've read, which may or may not be true.
