Hello Brad and other friends,

I just wanted to say hello. I am new to the group and

have done a bit of yoga before, but never too much of it.

I stumbled upon this place because of a television show,

perhaps discovery or national geographic where they were talking about the

Tibetan Monks and the process of dying. They referred to the Tibetan Book of

the Dead.

So I came here online and ordered a copy or two and

they spoke of Kundalini Yoga and how dangerous it is in the Westerners hands.

That with the breathing etc.. it can cause death they say.

So that is why I have looked to read up on Kundalini Yoga to see exactly what

it is. There are many I see around that say they do this and teach it, but

it made me think that some might not really know what they have gotten

themselves into. It is expressed in this book as something very sacred. So

I thought I would join this

group and learn more about it.

If you have time you might want to stop by and check out my website. It's

nice to be a part of this group.

Love and healing,

Keetonah

Sat Nam and Good to have you Keetonah,

May I ask does Keetonah have a seperate meaning?

" It's nice to be a part of this group." - Hope you stay a while and get what

you came for.

Before answering the following just let me say that Kundalini is very powerful

and

I treat the energy with the utmost respect. We in 3HO always tune in with the

Adi Mantra seeking guidance and protection from the Golden Chain,

of teachers and Gurus.

"So I came here online and ordered a copy or two and they (who's 'they'?) spoke

of Kundalini Yoga and how dangerous it is in the Westerners

hands." - I'll try to be more respectful this time. Sounds kind of patroninzing

if you ask me. There are different 'branches' or 'types' of KY

(Rudra, Maha and probably more) and I've read accounts posted on the web of

horrifying experiences. But from these types of postings I gather the

yogi/yogini was 'hell bent' on raising the Kundalini-(if its ego driven its got

to be dangerous), or they pulled a immulated Gopi Krishna and

practiced with NO guidance from a teacher (or both).

"That with the breathing etc.. it can cause death they say." - Not the way we

practice in 3HO. The aim is to raise awareness, clear the chakras

and to do that we use kriyas and meditations that gently raise your Kundalini

over time with steady practice. Of course if you are in a hurry you

can always do Sat Kriya for 2.5 hrs

every day. :-)

"So that is why I have looked to read up on Kundalini Yoga to see exactly what

it is. There are many I see around that say they do this and

teach it, but it made me think that some might not really know what they have

gotten themselves into."

I'm sure there are those who practice KY who 'don't know what they gotten

themselves into', but I don't think you'll find any on this board, or in

3HO KY classes.

"It is expressed in this book as something very sacred."

What book have you been reading? There are many out there that purport to give

you the 'low down' on Kundalini some of them real new agey.

"So I thought I would join this group and learn more about it. If you have time

you might want to stop by and check out my website."

I'll check it out, thanks for the link.

BTW what kind of yoga have you done before?

Blessings

Brad

Sat Nam Brad,

(trying to go with the lingo here)

Thankyou for the welcome.

The yoga I use to do was just sitting in front of the tv with a video tape

and going into morning positions and breathing....more like stretching. Lets

call it a real

beginners yoga, for 15 minutes out of the morning.

I remember growing up seeing this dark haired woman doing yoga on tv around

the same era as Jack La Lane...lol. Guess she stuck in my head.

I know nothing of what 3HO or any of these terms you use means so I feel very

immature to the group here.

All I have is what I was born with. Yes I took Reiki

courses and became a Reiki Master, but that is nothing to what I was born

with. I was born with the gift of hands on healing, I also hear voices, see

and (smell) people who have passed on. I sometimes have the gift of prophecy

and I can communicate with spirits (not human sort). A part of why I was

interested in this

Tibetan book of the dead was because I think there could be a link between

the people who have had near death

experiences and what the tibetians practice.. I somehow

see an answer there for a human explanation.

And so, it is this book... by W.Y. Evans-Wentz that mentioned the Kundalini

Yoga.

I am looking for the part now where it mentions it....

okay....here it is.....its the psycholgical commentary by Dr. Carl Jung ...

"The Chonyid state is equivalent to a deliberately induced psychosis. One

often hears and reads about the dangers of yoga, particularly of the

ill-reputed Kundalini yoga. The deliverately induced psychotic state, which

in certain unstable individuals might easily leadd to a real psychosis, is a

danger that needs to be taken very seriously indeed. These things really are

dangerous and ought not to be meddled with in our typically western way. It

is a meddling with fate, which strikes at the very roots of human existence

and can let loose a flood of sufferings of which no sane person ever dreame.

Thses suffereings correspoind. to the hellish torments of the Chonyid state,

described in the text as follows:... The the Lord of Death will place around

thy neck a rope and drag thee along; he will cutt off thy head, tear out they

heart, an pull out thy intestines...etc..."

So now you see where I came up with this question from....and my curiosity.

It totally took me off track and put a halt in the road. That is when I came

here to seek out information. I wanted to know what this Kundalini Yoga is

about. As I mentioned there are many out there doing this....and I wonder if

they know the dangers or if this is something prehistoric. The book is from

1960,

as I wanted to seek out the oldest form of this book I could.

I am taking your advice as to looking up Sat Nam Rasayan, thank you for your

direction and the time you took to visit my website.

Love and healing,

Keetonah

Sat Nam Keetonah,

"deliverately induced psychotic state" - Dr. Jung was referencing

"Serpent Power" or whatever Gopi Krishna's book was entitled. I read

it too.

The key here is "deliberately induced", and I wouldn't know how to

induce a psychotic state from the knowledge I've got so far.

1960, that was nearly ten years before YB came to America with his

KY. There wasn't much to go on then.

There are certain contraindications for doing KY, some mental

illnesses, drug taking.

Stick with the lessons on kundaliniyoga.org and you'll learn alot.

Sat Nam, Wahe Guru, and Blessings
