Guest guest
SAT NAM! I am extra excited about Vipassana right now because the teacher S.N. Goenka is on a rare North American tour and in my area -- Seattle -- this week! I get to sit with him all day tomorrow, then attend his local public talk on Friday, then sit with him all day Saturday! I was practicing meditation for over a year before I did a 10-day course (last summer) and thought I was ready enough, but frankly what I was doing at home didn't come close to preparing me for the very intense, grueling meditation schedule at the Vipassana course! I know many people who have gone to the course "cold" and we all had the same challenges and got many benefits as well from it. They say that you can get an idea of what Vipassana is by taking intro courses at various groups, but Goenka teaches that the minimum required to learn the technique is the 10-day intensive course. Having done it, I agree, I don't think I would have been able to go so deep in the meditation without the time and effort commitment, and the silence! of a 10-day course. After I came back from my course, I wrote a fairly long email about my experience. I still have the draft, if you like I can send it to you. Or I could post it to the list if it is considered enough "on topic" and more people are interested??? Anyone?
