Guest guest
Hi Krishan, Chapter 1 Just kidding.. "By consistency do you mean daily?" - But yes, of course. "how do you manage to keep track of the sacred number 108" -its a gift, just never had a problem with it, my mind can handle tasks like that. Same principle applys to 1 Min Breath. I think my secret is I kind of focus at the third eye. Count in tens, its easier. It may be that its a visual thing to, but my mind has an ability to pull it all together. "What do you mean by the observing, labeling and witnessing in relation to the 1 minute breath and your day?" - When doing this meditation, like most other meditations that use silent mantras and eyes closed;'things' come up and I learned to 'sweep' them aside. Witness or observe or label, all the same. Your identifying the thought so you don't get lost in it and lose the mantra and meditation. By doing this, you stay 'outside' of the intruding thought, so to speak. Do the same during the day. If your thinking about sex, label would be 'lust', or 'fantasy'. If you're thinking about the idiot in front of you driving like a maniac it might be 'criticizing driver' etc... This keeps you in the present, sometimes I use a mantra instead. It keeps my mind free of garbage, or helps. "Does this help you stay up longer?" - no because I don't use my back, my focus is on my navel/abdominals. The towel acts as a support that will support my vertabrae. I have discs that slip, and the tendency in stretch position is to use the lower back, recipe for injury. Put the support right on the lower lumbar, say L5, right above the tailbone, 3 inches (4.5 cm?) lower than navel. Kneck strain, tough it out, I do stretch my kneck during the 3 mins, from side to side, in general i try to stay still. "Do you mean the one with Inhale, Mulbhand then exhale, with the focus on the navel? Do you retain the breath after the inhale?" - Yes that one. Just briefly, I think its only until you've finished inhaling really. Thats the way I read it. "How does the Breath of Fire manifest as stimulating? I feel like it sometimes over stimulates my mind and thoughts, my whole being really." - I have a female friend who is very sensitive to Surya, couldn't sleep for 2 nights after, very irritable, I left quickly. Could be that women are more sensitive in the navel region. Like the manual says, this is a highly important area, with 72,000 nerves. Go for it, ride it out! When I do it it goes straight to my head, I feel relaxed but invigorated. "We pray and pray for change and transformation, and when it comes knocking, suddenly the old way of being, seems so comfortable, even though deep down we know, it doesn't really make us happy!" - I have the same problem, I'm surrounded by 'dabblers'. I look at it like, well I came to play, not sit on the bench. About change, ego anticipates change for us I believe, thats why we think we are unhappy. When we get change its not how we 'anticipated' it, so once again we find a way to be unhappy. I know I'm simplifying. Remember that we all agreed to come here and we have specific lessons to work on and learn, so its not always going to be the way we expect but it works out. "In reference to the tightness in the diaphragm and stomach muscles" - Wheel pose for 3 minutes! Sounds like your change is happening for you, me too! Stay with it and blessings Brad
Guest guest
Sat Nam Brad and Krishna, I have a hard time counting to 108 also. I make up a visceral pattern on my body to help me count. Usually I use fingers, or parts of fingers. Long mantra for counting never work for me. I get too dizzy. 3 counts as opposed to 4 counts are good, but they have a very different feel. It's like the difference between a waltz and a march. I count to 27 4 times. With all of those tricks, I still sometimes get lost. I tell students when we are doing stretch pose, as soon as the small of their back leaves the floor, then rest for a second and go back into the pose. I think that helps to avoid lower back strain. I know kundalini is the "science of keeping up." Taking a very short rest seems to me to be an ok way to keep up as long as you are avoiding injury. - > > "Does this help you stay up longer?" - no because I don't use my > back, my focus is on my navel/abdominals.
