Sat Nam Gian,

"Brad is saying that

the whole meditation will be wahe guru and the thoughts will float off

before I even realize that they are there." - Thats pretty much it....

I went to a 3 day Vipassina meditation retreat last year. I found the

labeling of thoughts as they came up very helpful in terms of self

understanding. I tend to be a radio addict (esp right after Sept 11)

and recognized this as a way to avoid my own thoughts. Last winter I

took a weekend break from all media to look into this. When I watched

and labeled my own thoughts I realized why I wanted to avoid my own

thoughts and how much I was dwelling on thoughts of "fear" and

"doubt". Once I realized that I could consciously examine and alter

what I was doing with my mind. I also realized from Vipassana

techniques how I used thoughts to cover up my feelings by

automatically transferring uncomfortable feelings into thoughts. Once

I got that I was more capable a feeling those feelings instead of

covering them up with thoughts (little drama scenes acted out

repetitively). I had a good weeping session once the feelings had

room to come up. I felt cleansed. Anyway, I found the process of

labeling thoughts very helpful in terms understanding the workings of

my mind, getting in touch with my witness self and letting the

thoughts go.

Sat Nam Devinderjit,

I concurr. While I seldom use it in meditation, the waking mind is different

and

is subject to all of the traps and trash of our ego/minds. For me observing

keeps me centered, I feel much more peaceful.

Blessings

Actually the controllers are back. :+) However, please post your

experience for the group. We are all trying to get to the same deep inner

space. I often say that Vipassana is where we all want to get. The

practice of KY helps us get there. When the body is aligned and alert, the

mind is more alert and it is much easier to get into those deep states. I

think these two practices are complementary.
