Guest guest
I had some questions regarding the morning shower. One book I read said not to get the thighs wet as this would interfere with calcium metabolism but I did not find this mentioned in other books - does anyone have any info on this? Regarding message oils: My readings indicate a good oil to use is almond. I could not find this in the first store and instead purchased apricot. I have since found almond. In comparing the 2 apricot has naturally occuring vit E and almond states that natural vit E has been added, neither mention the minerals that I read almond contain. The almond definately seems thicker than the apricot. The apricot oil also mentioned using johobo oil to help absorbtion into the skin. Any one have any thoughts on this? Also one book mentions avoiding the shower during the menstral period. Does anyone know why and for how long- the entire period or just the first days? I must add that I enjoy this showering experience (although I have not been able to get up extremely early as recommended) and I have seen my skin tone greatly improve since I started the routine. Guest guest
SAT NAM! I believe it was Dharam Singh who sent me a document on Ishnaan hydrotherapy that describes some cold shower processes. I will send it to you off-list as an attachment! Personally, I like to bathe with lukewarm water first, then take a cold shower. I have been doing this for quite some time, almost a year. As far as my experience as a woman goes I find that at a certain point in my menstrual cycle -- usually one or two days before -- I just don't want to get cold! It just becomes intuitive, your body tells you when to stop! So I stay with the lukewarm shower through the first few days of my period. At some point, my body becomes ready for the cold shower, it really craves it, and I begin again. For me, this is usually around the time the menstrual flow stops, or just before. So what I suggest is starting out with a general rule, like simply stop the cold showers for the full time of your cycle. After several months, you will stop having to think about it and you will just KNOW what is best for you. Hope this helps! Guest guest
The resistance to and avoidance of cold water in the morning that many of us have is often one based on the human tendency for comfort. There are definitely times (la vez de la mes) when one shouldn't partake in Ishnaan. My acupuncturist has also said that a man should not take cold showers in the morning after sex. All cautions aside the benefits of cold water to the parasympathetic nervous system are immeasurable. The parasympathetic governs governs relaxation and reflection (not doing) as opposed to the doing of the sympathetic system which governs fight and flight responses. If one can let go, doing breath of fire especially and open up to the experience and let go of defining the experience with the "pain" word, then there is another realm. We are over 70% water. Some how you will see that it is primarily the element of water that is working for you, regardless of temperature. You gotta keep breathing....moving that navel point and flow with it. See it as something absolutely necessary and wonderful for the health on all levels and not as something you "have to" do. That discomfort that we feel when that cold water hits is a clearing of our stuckness. Just like when we feel tightness while doing an asana, it's all a process. Sat Nam, Dharam P.S. I am very bummed that all summer long I can't find a decent cold shower during these warm summer months. metamorphosis4 wrote: > I had some questions regarding the morning shower.
