Sat Nam all!

Over the past 2 weeks I've been questionning some stuff, which is

probably the problem right there ;) Basically I thought I understood

the concept of chakras, kundalini and breath, but I'm beginning to

doubt myself. So I have some VERY basic questions that I'd like to

try to clarify. Also, I can sometimes be long winded (in case you

hadn't noticed by now) so just a warning that this one will follow

suit.

My understanding is as follows:

Prana is the breath. It's called two different names, one on the

inhale and a different one on the exhale (prana is on the inhale and

apana is on exhale - I think). But the prana is what 'feeds' the

energy in our bodies. Kundalini is the energy that gives us life, or

makes our bodies move and live. Any energy we feel moving in the body

is a piece of the kundalini. The kundalini is 'coiled' at the base of

the spine, which is the location of the root chakra. The 7 different

chakras, or energy centers, go from the base of the spine, up to the

crown, with an eigth one located above the body (the aura). The

chakras in the body are: root, sacral/sexual, navel, heart, throat,

sixth/3rd eye, and crown. As one progresses in KY, the kundalini

eventually becomes aroused/awakened and rises up the spine, through

the chakras. As it reaches each chakra, it energizes it and all

functions that that chakra controls. It continues this path until it

reaches up and out of the crown.

As I first read the descriptions of the emotions/physical attributes

that each chakra controls, I had in my mind an initial idea of what

my problem areas would be. I felt the my root, navel and sixth chakra

would be weak, but not blocked. I was sure my sacral and heart were

blocked. My crown was probably beyond weak, to almost undetectable. I

honestly felt, and still do, that my strongest chakra is my throat.

These initial thoughts are purely intuitive on my part.

Here are the questions:

As I've been doing KY, I have noticed that I can 'feel' my sixth and

crown chakra's quite easily. However, I have not been able to feel

any of the other chakras. This is what started me doubting my

understanding of how these work together. Does all energy need to go

through the chakras in order from bottom to top? I thought that it

did. But now I think I may be wrong. I had assumed that as a chakra

is energized, I would be able to feel it, like I do the top two. But

in my current understanding, how can the top two be energized (I'm

assuming they are since I can feel them), and the rest not be

energized, if the energy needs to go through them first to get to the

sixth and crown chakras. Unless it doesn't need to go through the

chakras like I thought it did. Or that all of the energy is not part

of the kundalini, but rather the kundalini is one of numerous types

of energies in the body. Any, of which, can enegerize a chakra

through different paths. But this doesn't really sound right to me.

I realize that physical sensations are not a guage for spiritual

growth/progress. And I'm not implying that they are. However, I am

curious about the 'science' behind the yoga. If anyone can shed any

light on this (no pun intended), I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

Christa
