Guest guest
Sat Nam! I had started doing the heart opener meditation in Gurmukh's book the other week. I had just received Gururattan's book Transition's to a Heart Centered World last week and found the same meditation, but it was chanted slightly differently. My question is whether there are different effects for each type of chant? One says to inhale deeply and chant 'Hum' as you exhale. Hands are out at sides, biceps parallel to floor and fore arms perpendicular to floor, hands open and palms facing forward. Continue for 3, 11 or 31 minutes. The other book has arms in the same position, but hands are in gyan mudra. The chant is also slightly different. You are to chant Hum 16 times during one exhale, then 20 times during the second exhale and 24 times during the third exhale. I personally find it much easier to use time instead of counting when meditating. I always lose track when counting, or else find I'm focusing more on the counting than on the mantra. Guest guest
Linda- No, my question wasn't addressed. But I went ahead and combined the two versions. I did the physical position the way it was described in Gururattan's book (arms out to sides parallel to floor with forearms perpendicular to floor, hands in gyan mudra) and chanted as recommended in Gurmukh's book (one long 'hummmm' with each breath, chanted as if from the heart for 3 minutes). I really enjoyed this meditation. I could feel myself vibrating with the 'hum' towards the end of the 3 minutes. It almost felt like the vibrations were corroding or breaking down 'stuff' around my chakra. I don't know how to describe it, but I felt great doing it. I highly recommend it, although my 'hybrid' version may not be the best approach. Christa

Try both ways and let us know. Many meditations were taught differently at different times. Sat Nam, Gururattan Kaur
