Guest guest
Sat Nam I have heard someone else recommend MSM - which many people find to be very helpful - not only with pain but with other problems as well. When I worked in a health store for 2 years, many people let me know they were taking it for depression also. (This is before SAM-E came out with all its hoopla) Another supplement that may help if what you are experiencing is related to an arthritic condition is Glucosamine or Glucosamine with Chondroitin. I know a lot of people that have had excellent results on a supplementation program with both the MSM and the Glucosamine/Chondroitin. If I'm correct, the MSM is something based on sulfur (you can smell this in some of the pills) and the Glucosamine is equally natural although you may want to check the label for animal derivatives on that one, if you're a vegan like me. It has been awhile since I worked around supplements, there may be new info out there now but this is what was working well a few years ago. The most important thing is patience - don't give up - with any natural program results may not be instantaneous like they are if you were to be taking a narcotic pain reliever. But long term it is much better for you...as I'm sure you know! Hope you feel better!! Amy P.S. I've seen ads for this new supplement PK5 that is supposed to be miraculous - but I don't know anything about it....so it may be gimmick...has anyone else heard of it? Amy M. Guest guest
Glucosamine/Chondroitin is derived from shellfish and should be avoided by those allergic to shellfish. Also, if diabetic or pre-diabetic, one should take glucosamine/chondroitin under medical supervision. (This information is on the label of my bottle.) My wife and I both use Glucosamine/Condroitin daily--and while not a panacea, it makes a big difference. Some swear by Sam-E, but, to tell the truth, I noticed no difference at all with Sam-E after protracted use, so I stopped. One very cheap and too frequently overlooked treatment: tumeric (curcuma longa), a common spice found in curry powder--it has remarkable anti-inflammatory properties which relieve all sorts of muscular and joint pain. Eat curries or buy a bottle of powdered tumeric at any spice counter. Capsules containing tumeric are available at health food stores--but the common, cheap spice is NOT less effective. Other effective natural anti-inflammatories include cat's claw herb and bromelaine (from pineapple). Some people rub freshly peeled ginger on a joint, and find relief in this. Avoid excessive immobility and avoid excessive motion...seek the happy medium. I've personally found that rotating among different remedies is helpful. Also, there's nothing wrong with taking a couple of Alleve pills now and then if you are not allergic to aspirin or similar remedies--as long as you don't overdo it. /SB sbernst On Mon, 22 Jul 2002 aroz76 wrote: > Sat Nam I have heard someone else recommend MSM - which many people find > to be very helpful - not only with pain but with other problems as well. > When I worked in a health store for 2 years, many people let me know > they were taking it for depression also.
