Hi Gian,

>I have a number of questions that stem from ignorance, not as >criticism.

When I posted the breathing manual..it was more to know if I am doing any

exercise wrong because I picked all this from internet and books and therefore I

really appreciate your message.

>I don't know these pranayama?? Could you describe them?

>4.SURYA BEDAN....10 TIMES..it awakens kundalini power

>5.SITKARI---10 times

>6. Sheetali---25 times

First of all I would like to say that I wrote that message fast and did not make

much clear that´s why so much confusion is arising from it.10 times or 25 times

denote the number of times I repeat these exercises...I do these exercises

everday for that many times..for example..Surya Bedan-you inhale slowly thru the

right nostril closing the left nostril with the little finger of your right

hand. Then hold the breath, closing both the nostrils and pressing your chin

against your chest as in neck lock (Jallandara bandha);then, chin up and keeping

the right nostril closed with your thumb, exhale through the left nostril.Repeat

surya bedan ten times in the begining and slowly build it up to 40.Since I am

beginner in this exercise so I repeat it only 10 times. The benefits of this

exercise is that it strengthens the liver and it also awakens kundalini power

because surya means sun.It refers to the right nostril which is the path of

pingala nadi(sympathetic ganglion). The basic logic behind it is that heat is

created in body and impurities that impair the flow of prana are dispelled.Just

by repeating 10 times does not awaken kundalini power. It has to be done

regularly for a long period of time( i dont know how long)

2.Sitkari and Sheetali are those tongue exercises..In Sitkari, you press the tip

of your tongue against the upper palate and slowly inhale through the

mouth, making a hissing sound. After retaining the breath as long as possible, you

exhaly through the nose.Repeat it 5-10 times.

3. Sheetali or Sitali..curl the sides of the tongue and protrude it

slightly, making a "straw" to sip the air as you inhale throguh your mouth.Close

the mouth and hold the breath then exhale slowly through your nose.Repaet 5 to

10 times....

Both Sitkari and Sitali(sheetali) cool the body and relieve hunger and thirst.

>Is there some way that you organize this in your head so it is

>simpler?

I have a clock which makes sound every second like "tik Tik"...so when I

inhale,I listen to the sound of the clock and 30 tik tik means 30 seconds..this

way I keep track of time. It´s impossible to keep track of time mentally.. I

devote about 5-8 minutes to every exercise because if you look at it

technically, doing sitali 10 times means I spend around 6-8 minutes on it at a

time....so this is my way of keeping track of time.

>Have you every tried doing any of these pranayama exlusively for a >longer

period of time? Is this combination more powerful?

>Where did you learn this set?

I have done Alternate nostril breathing for a very long time...but I repeated it

only 10 times per day...I could not do alternate nostril breathing more then 10

times because I use to feel bored after it.About 4 weeks ago,I suddenly came up

with an idea that If I do combination of pranayam then I will be able to do for

more minutes..so I collected info about these exercises from internet and books

and made my own manual and started working on it.Well the result is...very fresh

and lively skin, active mind and very energetic body.I never use to meditate by

sitting but after starting this set,now my mind is focussed while I

meditate, because besically if breathing is controlled then mind also becomes

less agitated.

>Is this combination more powerful?

In my case, ithas proved to be powerful.I am vegetarian,non-smoker, non

alcoholic...and I have this crazy idea in my brain that if a person eats right

food, does right breathing exercises and right yoga postures then wrinkles and

aging can be delayed.I don´t have any wrinkles yet because I am young but I want

to delay age as much as possible.

I am going to try Brad´s method of meditating early morning..one thing more I do

pranayam early in morning because at that time I am not hungry and its easier

for me to do in morning....only thing missing now is meditation on regular

basis....My God this message is too long,I hope it will not fall into the

ocean..lol

Sat Nam jyoti kaur and Gururattan Kaur,

I think there is a big difference between my random experimentation going

from one asana to another and Jyoti Kaur's relatively diciplined approach.

The master probably has a better formula for all of us to follow, on the

other hand, Jyoti Kaur has been doing her formula for a while and it seems

to suit her needs. She might try a formal Kriya and compare. Random

experimentation is just letting go of the focus on results and I doubt that

I am getting "good" results. Sometimes I just want to feel free. Jyoti has

a much better basis for comparison because she has done her routine

consistently.

Blessings,

Gian
